My Target Master / Tactical Industries Manufacture AR-15 .22 conversion kit was purchased for $170 + shipping and came with two 10 round Black Dog magazines. I purchased the polymer .22 CMMG charging handle separately for $19 + shipping. You can use your standard charging handle but I elected to use the CMMG charging handle which is used solely with .22lr conversions.
The Target Master kit was placed in a Plametto State Armory upper with a 16" mid length barrel and 1/7 twist. The Magpul rear sight was co-witnessed with a Bushnell TRS 25. The rage sessions took place at an indoor range with the targets at approximately 20 yards. The targets shown are 20 shot groups and were shot in a standing position while using the divider for support. The Bushnell TRS 25 brightness level was set to 1. At that level it was bright enough for indoor use and kept the red dot small enough for precision shooting.
I shot a total of 260 rounds with the following results.
333 Winchester bulk ammo
60 rounds with 5 light strikes
Fed AutoMatch
100 rounds with zero failures
Federal 550 bulk ammo
100 rounds with 3 light strikes
I would like to note that I felt some carbon and blowback on my face while shooting the conversion kit so be sure to always wear safety glasses. I believe the blowback travels rearward past the charging handle and toward the shooters face. I'm not sure if this is common with .22lr conversions for the AR-15 but this was my experience. See pictures below of the carbon build up on the charging handle and the conversion kit.
Overall the Target Master / Tactical Industries Manufacture AR-15 .22 conversion worked well. However, if precision is what you are looking for the you may want to go with a dedicated .22lr upper with a 1/12 twist barrel. See my review of the dedicated Tactical Solutions .22lr upper in the link below. I would like to state that I did not experience any blowback when using my TacSol dedicated .22lr upper.
