Ruger Mark III trigger clicking sound

Has other owners experienced this and know the origin of this sound? Upon cocking the bolt, there is a clicking sound at the initial stage of trigger pre-travel - meaning that the pressure of my finger placed on the trigger cause this click. It is no where near as hard as the actual trigger pull of releasing the hammer, but it is noticeable at the range and dryfiring.

Upon my research online, I concluded that it was caused by the magazine safety , so I replaced the hammer bushing. It did NOT remedy the click. (Magazines drop free which I love so much)

It only happens once per cocking the bolt and goes away... It doesn't effect shooting at all, but was wondering if this forum can shed some light into this minor annoyance....

Why in the world are you pulling the trigger while cocking the hammer? Stop that. Like uxo2 said, it's the trigger disconnector doing it's job.

I don't know what the first two repliers read, but I didn't read anything in the OP that would indicate he/she was depressing the trigger when cocking.

Not at home right now, but now I'm wondering if my mkiii does this...

I had one that would do the same thing every time. It turned out to be the trigger plunger. It didn't fit right in the hole and "clicked" every time as it seated in the hole.

Went away when I replaced the trigger with a Volquartsen.

I guess it could be misread the way I wrote it. I meant putting pressure on the trigger after cocking it. It only occurs once per racking the bolt.

Thanks, I will try polishing the plunger and see if it works out. If that doesn't work out, I guess I can upgrade to Volquartsen or just live with it.

Please explain to me how that a "BAD habit".

It's not. In fact it can be a valuable training aid.

Sound like you are implying it is dangerous or bad for the gun. Neither is true.

As you have stated the disconnector is in effect.
If you rack a bolt with the trigger depressed all you are doing is simulating what a live round would cause the bolt to do from recoil.
You still have to release the trigger till it reaches the reset point. The click OP is hearing is the trigger reset.
IMO that is a good thing to do to practice shooting from the reset instead of slapping the trigger and letting go.

So why is this a "BAD habit"?
1. No physical harm is being done to the gun.
2. Even if it was done to chamber the 1st live round it would not make the gun go off without the trigger being reset first.

Sure don't go doing this on a Winchester 12 or an Ithaca 37 or any other firearm without a disconnector..
