    Mosquito Help!

Hey everyone, I took my Mosquito out for the second time today, along with my new marlin 795 (awesome little gun!).. I was able to get off two rounds from my Mosquito. When I would pop the magazine in and cock the gun, there was no trigger pull whatsoever! Then when I would drop te magazine, it seemed like two bullets would be jammed up in the chamber.. Weird.

This is was only my second time to the range, so it is probably user error, but what the heck?

I wish I could help considering I previously owned them. I think your best bet is to send it to Sig. I have recently owned two and sold them and y self and Sig could not get them to ever fire good and cosistantly.
I tried running many rounds thru them to so call break them in, change springs and running the best ammo thru them.
    Good luck.

What kind of ammo were you using? What spring were you using in the Mosquito?

It comes with two springs in the box - a long one and a short one.

Mine came with the shorter spring installed and I read that you should put in the other spring, but when I did I got a lot of failures that sound like what you're getting - i'd pull the trigger and the hammer would go forward but the round wouldnt fire.

It would also go into double action which is a ridiculous trigger pull.

I switched to the shorter, darker factory spring and I never got the issue again.

Be sure you're using high velocity ammo - 1200fps or above. I tried some Federal Gold but it was only 1080 fps and every shot failed to eject the previous round.

I had no joy trying to shoot Federals in my mosquito. Anything else,
Blazer, Win, CCI work just fine. BTW, all round nose. I did have problems with some hollow points, but can not remember the brand.
I am using the stock spring. What you discribe above sound like the mag disconnect safety. I just checked mine, and the mag must be seated all the way or gun will not fire. This may be a case of just changing ammo and the problem will go away.

Now that you say that, when I was at the range, the bottom of my mag did feel a little wiggley.. Maybe a mag problem? Idk I changed the doing, have some match grade ammo that I'll throw in and try out a few things on Friday. Thanks for all the input!

It comes with two springs. I've never heard of anyone getting a Mozzie to run with the heavier one installed. Search is your friend. They are color coded.

Federal, BAH! My wife's won't run on anything Federal either. Golden Bullet and 40gr solid Blazer are the only bulk we've found so far that it likes. We broke it in with 40gr MiniMag solides. 100% reliable with those.

There is also a screw under the takedown lever. That needs to be tight, too.

My wife's likes to be clean and oiled. The little hole on the right rear of the slide is also for oil.

Use only genuine METAL SIG magazines, too. Don't be penny wise & pound foolish.

On the mag issue, there were two types: one plastic and one metal.
                        I have the metal.
Don't know if that could be the problem

All of the prior suggestions are good -

CCI min mags for ammo works jam free for me.

A lot of bulk 22 ammo is inconsistent.

The contact points between the slide and the frame can be smoothed out a bit with 600-800 grit sandpaper, and that also helps.

CCI stinger will work with the heavier spring.

22lr pistols that need to cycle a full slide generallyl have reliability issues WRT ammo. Given that folks can't be picky right now with 22lr ammo due to the shortage, has anyone tried to lighten the spring? It would be tougher on the gun, but might help with reliability.

I bought a spare spring and tried it, (cut some turns off the spring) some improvements but the inconsistency with bulk ammo is the big issue.

Best improvements I got was to polish-sand (800 grit if I recall) the
two "ears" that fit into the slide from the frame. Also, use a white lithium grease on the slide contact points. After I did that it would run most bulk .22 without jamming.

For the most part, I run bulk 22 in the S&W 22A, which feeds pretty much anything and stick with CCI mini-mags in the Mosquito.
