.22 LR snap caps

Next few weeks or so we are going to do a thorough clean/inspection

On a family members .22 Rifle. Any pointers where to purchase some

Snap caps to test mags and cycle rifle? Its been sitting a "long" time

@ least 20 years. LGS in San Jose and or in Manteca area? Thanks

Any gun store really, although I haven't found any rimfire snap caps, just dummy rounds, which will start to deform after a few "firings". Luckily you get 10 or 12 in a pack.

^ cycle the gun with these. After your shooting it, save a bunch for dry firing. I dont like to leave some springs loaded.

They do make .22 snap caps.Don't dry fire the dummy rounds.Don't know where you can buy them.

I got mine through Dillons website. They are read, and easy to realize they are not live rounds.

if you have these plastic screw anchors, they work fine for dry firing. Just found some in the garage last nite and they work great, extract fine too.

I never try to use those metal snap caps for actual firing, I stick with the plastic one like these from midway.... "Pachmayr Snap Cap 22 Long Rifle Polymer Package of 24"

---if you even look at the package it cleary states "not dry fire snap caps -see warning on back" in red - great for chamber fitting IMO

The white size fits perfect and its much cheaper than a snap cap.. You can rotate them and get at least 10-20 dry fires until it has problems ejecting. Make sure there are no plastic residue left over before you go to the range.

If you want to dry fire, go for the Pachmayr. They're $8.70 for 24.
If you want to rack them in, rack them out, go for the Azoom, they're metal and they hold up better in the extraction process than the Pachmayr, but at $6.00 for six of them, they are too expensive to use in dry firing.

Tipton makes some snap caps for .22, I didn't find them to be of value.
