SR22 pistol issues

Ive had my Ruger SR22P almost a year now and for the most part its functioned pretty darn well. I always fed it Federal Bulk ammo, CCI tactical bulk, and Federal American Eagle ammo, with only the occasional hiccup....but the last month ive taken it to the range 2 times and had MANY, MANY fail to fire, fail to eject, and fails to load the next round. It would be safe to say every 2-3 rounds theres an issue.

So here is some background about my last 2 range trips:

Gun was stripped and cleaned before ONLY before the first trip this month


Any ideas?

Did you clean the mags?

Polish up the feed ramp, check the screw that holds the barrel and clean your magazine follower and spring.

My manual says high-velocity is okay, but sub-sonic or match grade ammo may not have enough energy to cycle the slide.

if it persists may be worth contacting Ruger, I've only heard good things about their customer service

Replace the recoil spring? The spring is like its from a ball point click pen. It feels like it can wear out easily

I had some of your issues about a month in with the SR22 and considered sending it to be looked at since I was having FTL and FTE. I had a few FTF but thought that was due to the ammo when I used bulk Federal. I cleaned it and noticed I missed cleaning the extractor. Now that I do, I haven't had any issues. I also kept it oiled well too. I've not had an issue for months. whether at an indoor range or outdoors.

Yes, mags were disassembled, inspected and cleaned. No issues were found with any of the 4 mags ive got

I missed that in my manual. Ive actually dealt with Ruger customer service for my SR22 already because my slide stop actually broke. The customer service from them is excellent.
Im going to give it another deep cleaning then head ot the range gain and see what happens

Page 13, second paragraph under Ammunition

"The Ruger SR22 pistols are compatible with all factory ammunition of the correct caliber loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including high-velocity and hollow-point loads. However, sub-sonic or match-grade ammunition may not have sufficient energy to cycle the slide. If you find that the slide does not cycle fully, try another brand of ammunition."

Next time you shoot it hold it firmly and see if the problem goes away. Very common for shooters to hold smaller size low recoiling guns like the SR22 loosely and that reduces the inertia needed for the slide to fully function.

Never shot that brand in mine, but i'd grab four or five other brands and take them to range. Put some oil on the slide and in the mag and chamber. We are talkin a drop or too. You can actually tell the gun works better just manipulating the slide with and without oil.

Mine was like that. Polished the chamber and hammer with flitz. Spraying my ammo with remoil also helped.
