Ruger 10/22 takedown good trunk gun?

Do u guys think the 10/22 takedown would make a good trunk gun based on its features? What are ur thoughts?

Trunk gun? For what?..Emergency plinking.?

In my mind a Trunk Gun is a 'get home rife' or a 'protect yourself from that carload of gang members' gun. Sure a .22 rifle can shoot a rabbit but for long range travel away from home I want something with more punch.

.223/7.62x39/10MM carbine...etc.

Due to it's compact size and relatively low price, sure, it would make a nice trunk gun.
I have a Keltec SU-16 as my trunk gun for the same reasons.
While the 5.56 may have more firepower than the Ruger, scrounging for ammo during a SHTF situation may be easier with the .22.

If I didn't already have a couple 10-22's, I'd probably get a Takedown, not as a trunk gun, but just because.

I can totally see the Keltec SU-16 as a good choice for a Trunk Gun. Firepower is what you need and the SU-16 does that job very well.

I can see perhaps a Ruger .22 pistol with a red-dot as a companion to a .223 (whatever) Rifle or carbine. A Ruger (or similar) .22 can be very effective and is small enough to lug around in a backpack.

Just more stuff to spend money on....hahaha..

No. Having to assemble the rifle does not help. Is your trunk that small where you couldn't fit a complete rifle? Or shotgun? Or AR15?

Any of the Hi Point Carbines would be effective. But I guess something is better than nothing.

Go full size and its ready when you need it. No need for "some assembly required" to cluster f*** the process.

If it's an emergency and you need to be armed an unassembled weapon won't help. Because California denies easy CCW you're stuck with tough choices. While I agree something small like a M4gery makes perfect sense, California has that idiotic 30 inch thing going on. A discreet case can hide a full-size rifle.

You shouldn't need to disassemble an AR pistol (depending on barrel length and backpack size) if you have a lock on the compartment of the backpack which holds the pistol. Or a Kel-Tec SU-16CA, which folds out much faster than AR rifle assembly and weighs 2 pounds less than a disassembled AR rifle.

I think the take down Ruger would make a perfect trunk gun...I plan on getting one just for that.
I have a take down Rossi youth 410/17hmr combo as a trunk gun now.

A cheap tactical shotgun is my preferred trunk weapon. Some people use rifles, but I don't want to put good rifles in my trunk. So a cheap pump shotgun with short (legal) barrel and a shell caddy. With an extra pouch of shells.

Reliable, low maintenance, inexpensive and versatile. Some folks use Mossberg. But you can buy used pumps pretty cheap. Just grease them up and put a coat of oil on them to scare away the rust. Then in the trunk and forget about it until you need it.

If you have to have a rifle, the Ruger Mini-14 is the quintessential trunk gun, OR a lever action rifle in 44 Mag. But a Keltec SU16CA would be excellent, if you can find one.

I have a 10/22 breakdown, but there is not enough firepower for a trunk gun.

Oh, one last thought, a M92PV pistol would be a very compact and POWERFUL trunk weapon. Hehehe!

I think the 10/22 is a sweet gun and very versatile and it works all the time, at least mine does, it will eat anything.
My 2c, is this. Its a cheap reliable gun. They make some good ammo for it as well. The up-side is you can fire 2000 rounds through it and know the gun for a very small amount of money. That counts for allot.
