So I have this old Stevens 84C that I'm thinking of having drilled and tapped for a scope rail. It's in decent functional shape with a trigger pull of around 60 lbs and its acurrate once you figure out how to compensate for the effort of pulling the trigger. Its not really a fine collector specimen and I can't see well enough to use the itty bitty peep sight. Should I do it? And does anyone know any fixes for the factory Savage trigger back in the 40's?

Don't bubba it. They don't make 'em like they used to.Originally posted by shollingSomeone else's lack of foresight and planning is no reason for you to take less than the current market value despite all of the wailing and crying for 2nd Amendment socialism and welfare pricing.Comment

Yes on cleaning the trigger etc. I also have a Savage 86D with the same trigger. That one is about the same with the addition of some generous travel side to side. All the pins and ears are tight. I make NO claims to being any kind of gunsmith. I saw an ingeneous scope mount made from some steel electrical conduit online and can't remember where. It mounted with set screws on the barrel/reciever.Last edited by covingtonhouse; 03-12-2013, 7:15 PM."I don't work for you!" - Joe Biden

If you know a good machinist you might try to have a scope mount made that would attach to the same screw holes as the rear aperture sight. Wouldn't be good for a heavy scope but may work for a small 3-9x. Maybe a pictanny rail with a piece welded to the side to mount it. Just thinking out of the box here.Comment

Ok. I'm convinced....no holes. I've thought about trying to rig up something off the peep sight holes. There is also a dovetail cut in the barrel for a leaf type sight also. Does anyone make a mount of that type? It would be limited to a scout/pistol type scope at that point.Last edited by covingtonhouse; 03-13-2013, 5:09 PM."I don't work for you!" - Joe Biden
