I don't know anything about serials on these but if you are looking for a new one turners outdoorsman has them in the weekly ad for 219.

When you figure in the mags a tri mag adapter, he's pretty much selling you a used gun for what they are currently selling for at Turners.
I would pass. A 188 is a 1979 serial number. Who knows how many rounds have gone down the tube.

NOT ME! Actually I would opt for the 118 serial number. It's pre plastic parts. Also, orig equip barrels for a 1022 are a dime a dozen and a no brainer to swap out. ($15.00)
But the main difference in the two is that the 1979 should have a REAL WALNUT STOCK which are beautiful and at a premium.
I'd grab it & growl!Comment

Wow, a '79! Not a bad price, not a steal. No worries on the barrel or TG...probably end up upgrading those any way!
Yes, alum TG, nicer stock those years. Mines an '82 and has a birch stock. The walnut are a lot nicer. Is it a standard blue/wood model or a sporter/SST/other premium rifle?

I'd pay more for an old 10-22 than a brand new one! $300 is a bit steep and the tri-mag is nothing special. In fact, I'd rather have a couple original rotary mags than a tri-mag. I do own three ten round BC mags in a tri-mag configuration. But, I haven't seen them or cared where they were for over ten years. I have plenty of other 10-22 mags including 50 round drums, tear drop 50 rounders, 50 round mags, 30 rounders and 25 rounders. Now, I either use my TI 25 round mags or factory 10 round rotary mags. Personally, I'd offer him $225 and tell him to keep the tri-mag.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

The metal finish and thr FCG are far superior to that of a new one. Hell, offer him $200 for it. If you get it and are local, I'll trade you a brand new one for it. I'm sure it'll outlast and outshoot a new one.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

$200 because of the magazine.
The metal trigger assembly is worthless to me because I will get an upgrade down the road from Hornet Customs for $115.
It's only $300 is you have no plans on modifying your 10/22...but who doesn't modify a 10/22?Comment

whoa whoa. i've got my grandfathers early 70's model that i grew up shooting on. its completely stock. i'm fairly certain that its never even seen a magazine other than the one it was sold with.
i've also got a new in 2011 model that is completely stock other than a scope. i've drooled over the heavily modified 10/22's but never had a desire to mod mine....not sure why.
I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.
