    S&W 22A malfunction

I picked up my PPT pistol today and took to the range. Can anyone give me an idea why the slide lock would engage after every shot instead of when the magazine is empty? The gun is pretty accurate. But slide locks every time. Bought it from a fellow CalGunner and hope he would not have sold me a Lemonhttp://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/a...1&d=1362333449

4 different mags. All the same thing. Shot, lock, Release, shoot, FTC, clear, shoot, lock, release, shoot lock. Every time.

I have a couple of these...

First thing I would ask is if the magazine is dropping from pressure being applied to the mag release. While I do like these guns, the location in which they put the mag release (and the mechanism as to how it works) was a very poor design. I have experienced problems similar to this, but not from every shot fired.

The spring seams right. I had people over when I got home and didn't get a chance to strip it but it seem to me as long as a shell is still in the mag this should not happen.

When I manually activate the slide with a full mag and release the lock does not engage.

Well after stripping the 22A and pulling out about a 5gl bucket of gunk. I pulled off the handles and found the lower cracked in half at the trigger pin. The only thing holding the lower together is the trigger guard. I am lucky the thing didn't blow apart in my hand while firing. My question is it worth sending it to try and get a new lower?

The 22A-1 has a lifetime warranty with S&W, however I don't know if it only applies to the original owner. Worth a phone call to S&W. Good luck. I hope the person who sold it to you was unaware of this, if not then he/she is verified dirtbag.

Seems to be a common fail point on those pistols, a few examples on google that look exactly like yours.

That was my first pistol. I quickly traded it for a small outboard motor

My 22a frame broke at the trigger pin. Called S&W they sent a shipping label for FedEx. I am not the original owner. A couple of weeks later it was returned. I sent in the barrel and they replaced it as well.

I have one too! For the money it's a great pistol. No problems with mine yet and I have about 4,000 rounds through it.

Jimdecarlo is giving me hope S&W might do the right thing. Question now is if I can get them to fix it will I have to jail the new frame with fees?
