Magnum Research Magnum Light?

Does anyone have or used one? I see the Turners ad it looks like a high priced 10/22. Is it worth the money?

It's a .22 magnum not .22 long rifle. Ruger made a 10/22 in .22 magnum but I think alot of them have problems.

They make it in 22lr also...smoking barrel in Simi Valley has one in stock... I fell in love with it.I love the way the scope mount is machined into the receiver.just beautiful machine work...was $675 if I remember right.
I also handled one at a little gun store in Colorado with a tiny gemtech on it...awesome!

Depends on your use of the rifle? I think to make a judgement like this we need more information from you. I know many who own Magnum Research rifles and love them, but what is your purpose?

I just saw one in this weeks Turners ad on sale for 749.00. this is the first i have heard of this rifle. I looked it up and it uses Ruger rotary magazines. I guess my question was is it a modified 10/22 that Magnum Research just put their stamp on? Or is it a totaly different rifle that just uses Ruger magazines.

Magnum Research machines their own receiver with an integral Weaver style rail on top. They also make their own barrels and bolts. They use a Ruger factory 10/22 trigger group and a Ruger 10/22M magazine.

Like a lot of things these days, these are not easy to find when you want one. Don't wait too long to get one of these if you decide that you are interested.

I have one that I got for hunting squirrels and its great. The WMR version also has a special gas vent to release chamber pressure so that it has more consistent operation with different ammo types. One thing to consider with your purchase however is that now MRI specifies that the rifle should only be used with 40gr or larger ammo. This causes a problem for those like me who hunt in the "Condor Zone". Lead free ammo is only offered by 3 companies, Hornady 25gr NTX, Winchester 28gr Varmint Express, and CCI 30gr TNT green. So far my rifle prefers the 30gr TNT and I have been using it almost exclusively with great results. I just picked up some of the Hornady ammo because a local shop finally got some, but I haven't tired it. All that being said MRI says on their website that using 30gr ammo will void the rifles warranty. I emailed and called them several times because when I bought the rifle I specifically asked them about ammo and they had told me that the rifle would work fine with any commercial ammo and there were no restrictions or suggestions. The person at MRI told me that the lighter ammo has a faster spike in chamber pressure which causes the action to open too quickly before it can "blow off" and there is a "risk" of case rupture. I can tell you all that I have fired many many 30gr and never experienced this problem, but its something to be aware of.

Incidentally I also asked MRI why not just offer a stiffer recoil spring that would allow using the lighter ammo? They told me that they chose not to because of the confusion......

I am now contacting some different custom parts mfgs to see about a stiffer spring as I shoot the light ammo exclusively....I also am planning on getting a Kidd single stage trigger assembly after allot of research because the trigger on the stock MRI rifle is horrible....
