We took my new Marlin to the Los Angeles Gun Club Range today. It was a great experience. First of all, we took the Marlin, a Saiga, a 30.06 Remington, 2 9mms. Plenty of ammo at the range at great prices. Everybody was really friendly. It was the first time I fired the Marlin. What a great experience, it never misfired. It was really smooth. we were all amazed how we all shot nice groupings. I put a Walmart cheapy scope $ 16.99 on it, didnt even adjust it. I put the first magazine in the gun, I kept pulling on the bolt and nothing was happening until my son figured out that you push on the little lever at the bottom and it loads automatically and then pure fun. I really recommend this weapon for alot of fun.

Congrats!
Did you ever figure out your rear sight issue?
BTW Marlin 795 have 2 bolt hold open devices.
The Last Shot Hold Open like you encountered and a manual one.
The bolt handle has a nub on it and the receiver has a corresponding hole in the receiver. So if you pull it to the rear and then push it inwards it will hold open.
These 2 bolt hold opens are independent of eachother, so if you manually lock it the LSHO lever will not release it. Just something to know about keep in mind if it ever locks back and will not release.Comment

rear sight issue
Thanks for asking. I think it is just a bad design. The slotted plate is held in the front by two tabs, that I think with enough opening and closing they will brake off. At best becomes like a pivot because there is nothing holding the plate at the back. So I ended up getting a $ 16.99 scope at wallmart, which for these tired eyes was a great solution even if the sight had been working great. Everybody that came to the range with me (5) got 2" groupings.Comment

Congrats on the Marlin. Mine was a tack driver right out of the box. Make sure to check out the Marlin 795 Mega Thread Part Deux. Lots of good info. The one upgrade I made that was worth the money was upgrading the sights to the Williams FireSights.
