    M&P 15-22 Rail Defect

I just picked up my 15-22. I've probably sent 600 trouble free rounds through it so far.

However, when cleaning/inspecting it I noticed that there's a minor defect in the underside of the left bolt rail.

I emailed Smith, they said to send it back the entire rifle to them for inspection. I wanted to just send them the part but no dice.

It's deep enough to feel through the charging handle on the assembled rifle but not significant enough to cause any operating malfunctions. I'm more concerned about long term wear at the contact point with the bolt and potentially marring that surface to cause a problem far far down the line.

Anyone know if this is something I can just deburr and be done with it? I don't know if it's a coated or surface hardened part. If so I'll just order a new one or cave in and send it to Smith.

Thats interesting. If its not a crack that was repaired somehow, just sand it down and call it a day
