I am currently residing in Texas. I bought a Smith M+P 15 22. Being this is rimfire, do any of the current terms that define assault weapon in CA apply? I'm going to move to CA in the next few years most likely. If I just change out the mag to hold 10 rounds am I okay? Also, I had a bushmaster AR .223 rifle, that I also bought in Texas. I have heard that I cant take it to ca, even if I put a non-telescoping stock on it with a 10 rd mag, because the serial number is a "outside of CA" serial number. Is this true?

California AW laws do not apply to rimfires. Magazine capacity restrictions do apply to your 15-22 though. 10 rounds or less.
As for your Bushmaster, it's not the serial number that would make it illegal to have here. Look at page 2 of this: http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf
If it is banned by name, then you cannot bring it in. If it is not banned by name, you can bring it in but you need to install a BB on it before you cross the border. Oh, same magazine restrictions too.Last edited by roushstage2; 02-04-2013, 10:39 AM.
