Savage 93r scope bases and rings

I just picked up a 93r17f the other day and I am having an issue with the stock base and my scope rings. I have a set of weaver grand slam rings and it seams like they are not setting properly even after tourqued to spec, just to be sure I tired another set of quad locks and it was the same fit. Do you know if I need to get another set of rings or switch out the bases, I have seen some other use one piecs units but it only a rimfire rifle

I switched out the savage ones and got a one piece base (25 moa) from these guys. Doing the same on my MK II as well.

Not really much help with your question, but might give you an idea to try.

Are the base of the rings flat with the surface of the top of the mount ?
      If so you are fine.
The pic you show looks fine to me if the ring base is flat on top of the mount.

Also that mount sjg1966 linked is the Cats Meow

I added a few more photos to give a better understanding, the part I am concerened about is the side not fitting flush, the scope ring does fit flush with the base. That scope base looks sick but at $40 thats almost the cost of a DNZ one pices unit.

That looks fine, not the most perfect fit but it does not need to be flush on the side as long as it is flush on the bottom and has a good grip.
DNZ is a nice mount, the reason I do not like them is you are limited to scope placement and height. Say at first you opt for a small 4x scope with a 32mm bell and you get the low mount, later you deside you want to mount a
4-16X with a 40, 44 or 50 mm bell your going to need to buy a whole new mount not just rings. Also some scopes turrets are in the middle of the scope and some are placed closer to rear or the front bell, limiting the for and aft placement of the scope to get the eye releif just the way you like it.
I also like using Burris signature Zee rings with the adjustable inserts, they eliminate any chance of ring marks to a scope

That looks normal. Also don't expect the bases to be perfectly aligned on the receiver unless you are using a 1-piece base.

I like using the warne split rings because they are a bit more forgiving on the alignment and are less likely to mar the scope as long as you don't over-torque the screws.

Another option is the Burris z-rings which have inserts that adjust for alignment. I still prefer the Warne split rings but ummv.

It's fine. If the side was flush, the chances that they would be loose rises tremendously.

I have been having problems with Savage and the bases that come with them with the Weaver rings. I think Weaver has changed to a different manufacturer say in China or something and their for the lack of a better descriptive word, claws that grip the bases when tightening, need to be farther bent inwards. If you use an older "claw" from another ring it will tighten just fine. Seems Weaver is cheapening their product or Savage has cheapened their mounts etc. The new Weaver rings also seem to work on the new mounts that come from Weaver. So, if you take off the mounts that are on your Savage and replace them with new Weaver mounts and the new Weaver rings, then all will be good. You could also just take the "claw" and put it in a vise gently (if that were possible) and hammer it down just a bit more. I have noticed this same problem with the new Ruger 10/22's as well and the mounts they give you with the rifle. I have also had success using Leupold rings on those mounts. They tighten down fine, albeit at a higher expense.
