Could the 22LR ammo drought be ending?

I jailed a Savage 93R17 today. Asked if they had any 22LR ammo and of course the answer was NO. But, the salesperson said by the time I picked up the rifle
(10 days) they should have a big shipment. This is a small gun shop and I am sure they are low on any distributors customer list. So, maybe, just maybe supply is opening up. When I go back to get the rifle, if they have any, will advise.

Congrats on your new rifle, if it were me I'd get the salesman to "Swear" that when they get the shipment in he or she will put a few boxes aside for you to test out your new shooter. Remember there are a lot of folks out looking or ammo. Including you and me I'd say a real lot of people.

From what I've heard all ammo production is going mil > leo > civ. Because of this, the ammo supply to us civilians is few and far between. One of the big problems faced by ammo manufacturers is primer shortages (confirmed by reloaders).

Good thing about .22 is that military and LEO demand for it is pretty low so most of it goes straight to the civilian market. Also, .22 manufacturing is not impacted by the primer shortage.

I have been told by a few contacts, that we have at least 2 months before we start seeing a steady streaming and even then things will be tough because of panic hoarding. When you see it buy it.

Yeah I think the magic date of semi normality will be May. (semi-normality in that selection will be limited and prices will be a bit higher than say last year)

CSR I talked to was real nice & spent a few minutes talking with me about the whole deal. He thinks they have stock of the 325 packs and are just adding a few hundred boxes to inventory at a time, but he's not sure why. He also said they know that several web forums are posting every time they release a batch, & instantly their phone lines go nuts. They sell out in minutes, but spend hours afterwrards telling folks there's no more. Says it sucks, but he's happy to finally have some to sell. And he repeated what Penny's Dad's sources said - the mfrs are shipping rimfire ammo but thinks it'll be another 6-8 weeks before the buying slows down enough that they're able to keep the warehouses stocked.

Cabelas should have capped the max per order if they didn't want to be turning away people for hours. I mean guys were buying up 20-40 boxes at a time just to have it, meaning guys that just want 2 boxes were screwed. But I'm sure they'll be able to buy some extra stock of the guys with 40 boxes for only 250% markup!

Even Midway got hammered. I like the round nose Aguila and bought two boxes. Was gone about 20 min later.
