Well with the price of centerfire ammo... .17 hmr heaven

I have been wanting to get into long range bolt guns for a while now but am not that great of a shot. I had been planning to do a .17 hmr for as an inexpensive way to become a better shooter and make sure I like bolt guns before investing in something more expensive.

With the price of ammo right now (when you can find it) I figured now is the time to get that .17 . Just about every gun store I have ever been into has plenty of .17 hmr on the shelves and its still plenty affordable.

So here is my new Savage 93R17 BRJ and a few of my first groups at 100 yards after getting it zeroed. Must say I am loving it!!!

I just starting shooting a lot more 22 because of the price of ammo.
      Nice gun and nice groups.

I was just at that range the last two weekends. I didn't make it there this weekend though. I'll be there next week.

That's pretty nice! I know the price range varies greatly, but what's a ball park figure for a nice 17? How about ammo? Looks like it would be fun.

Nice group. What are you using for a scope?
I'm paying between $13 & $16 for a box of 50 Hornady 17HMR 17gr. What ammo are you shooting and how much are you paying for it?

          Thanks,
          Paul

I too am using the 17 gr. 17HMR from Hornady and $13 to $16 is exactly what I am finding it for too.

And .17HMR is cheap considering the accuracy and what .308 or even .223 is going for now days. Although I bet you could reload .223 for pretty close to what .17HMR cost, I live in a little downtown condo and am not able to reload (not to mention that just means more range time).

I just picked up a .22LR Savage Arms

.17 HMR is NOT cheap, just easier access to it for now.

midsouthshooterssupply.com generally has Hornady .17 HMR 17gr for $10/50, at least that's what I paid for it two months ago, plus shipping but not $13-$16 per box. I buy 1000 rounds at a time to reduce the shipping cost per round.

Izzy, good call on midsouthshooterssupply.com! By far the cheapest I have seen the good hornady 17gr stuff.

NICE. I've always loved shooting rimfire, but have been leaning towards it more due to the high prices/lack of availability of centerfire ammo. I bought a .17HMR barrel for my CZ 455 so that I could shoot longer distances (100 yards) at a relatively low cost

Gotta say I'm on the .17HMR train too! Bought a cheap Marlin 917 a month ago and loved it. So much so I just bought a CZ 452!
