    Black Dog 10/22 50rd Drums

I'm getting a Black Dog 50 round drum in a trade. What's the word on those? I plan on using them when I cross state lines.

Not sure if you are asking about the quality of the magazines or the legality.
I have allways heard blackdog is top notch...

There is no execption for rimfire magazines under pc 12020.

The selling/giving etc (see the law below) of a "large-capacity magazine" is controlled.
While the law primarily talks about the seller not the recipient, the magazine should be dissembled prior to transfer.

Each time it crosses the state boarder it will need to dissembled before you enter or you are guilty of importing.

12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison:
    [...]
    (2) Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity magazine.
    [...]
    25) As used in this section, "large-capacity magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following:
    (A) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
    (B) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
    (C) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.
And before anyone says there is an exemption for rimfire tube magazines, read above. The law does not state rimfire it states .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.

I know they are illegal for me to use as a person without exemption. I'm glad to hear their quality is good.

I will either keep them in parts and only assemble them as I get to Nevada or I will gift it to my LE friend ind parts and only borrow it from him when we shoot together.

Technically they are not illegal to use.
Possesion and use are not listed under 12020.

Also the AWB under 12276.1 when it comes to rifles says "centerfire semiautomatic" so there is no requirement to use under 10 round magazines.

It comes down to how and when did you come to aquire the magazine:

"keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends" Are all about the seller but technically you would be party to a crime as the buyer.
(Note in this case "lend" means when the owner is not there, you can borrow a large-capacity magazine if the owner is right next to you at the range)

"manufactures or causes to be manufactured" would be if you put the magazine together from a rebuild kit

"imports into the state" is when you bring it across the state line assembled.

I'm getting it as a rebuild kit and I'm gonna keep it that way until I go out of state. If I'm gifting it, it will also be in parts.

If someone is lending it to me, he will be there with me shooting.

I can always block it to 10 rds and only unblock it later.

I'm curious, if I modify the magazine to operate 10 rounds at a time would it be legal? Basically having 5 10 rounders in one body. If the CA DOJ OK'ed the KSG because it requires the operator to manually switch to another tube (feeding device) can the same be done to a 50 round drum?

They suck- I could do you a huge favor and dispose of it free of charge.

The KSG has 2 magazine tubes so that is a bit differnt.

This is what the law says:

                  (25) As used in this section, "large-capacity magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following:

So yes it is legal to limit it to 10 rounds.

Some how making it into 5 10 round sections sounds like it can "accommodate" or has "capacity to accept" more then 10 rounds so IMO no go.

Well, we have two and they are nice, nice little drums. Function perfectly every time. Well made also for "plastic"

Going to buy a couple more if things settle down.
