Look at the game regs where you intend to hunt. Many states do not allow the .223/5.56 to be used for hunting deer and other game
If the .223 is not allowed this will help with your selection.
The .243 is a great round. If you reload you might also look at the .270
Load it down and use a lighter bullet. As your child gets older, you can load heavier bullets and closer to max loads.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
