    Sig 1911-22?

    Hi All,

I currently own a Sig Sauer 1911 TTT and would like to get a 22 to try and train my wife and better my accuracy. I have tried to search this forum for some reviews on the Sig 1911-22, but have had no luck.

So, my thought was to get the 1911-22 in order to make the transition to the TTT easier for the wife (and myself). I figured that since both are 1911 platform, the feel should be relatively the same. I am already comfortable with the TTT just not as accurate as I would like.

What are your thoughts on the 1911-22? Or is there a better 22 pistol that will still make the transition to the TTT the easiest possible?

    TIA

Not sure if it is true, but I hear the SIG1911-22 is in fact the GSG1911.
Lot of threads on the GSG1911, I love mine.

You are correct. Sig contracted GSG for the 1911-22. It's the same pistol.

Only difference are the markings (SIG instead of GSG) and the cost (approx $100 more because it says SIG instead of GSG).

I've tried the Sig 1911-22 once and really liked it. I found one in the store last week and was actually thinking about buying it but decided to look for some reviews online first. What I found were mixed reviews - half the people loved it, but half the people had trouble (FTF/FTE problems as well as it being picky with ammo). In the end, I decided to pass.

Unfortunately there aren't many CA-legal options for 1911-22s

            Thank you eveybody.

After looking at reviews of the GSG and Sig 1911-22, I decided to purchase the GSG (since the gun store I am trying to be loyal to only had the GSG and told me that he is pretty sure that the California Legal Sig is not avalible at this time). So, I will be at the range putting many rounds through this gun on the 26th.

You can't put too much weight on negative reviews on the internet. Generally, people only complain when there is a problem. If there isn't a problem, nothing is said about it. So 10 people see one complaint and that becomes 1000 people saying it's a bad product.

Guns are mass produced, just like cars. From time to time you will get one off the line that is out of spec. If that's the case, just take it back.

The Sig is indeed a GSG. You pay $100 more for the Sig name and some cheap wood grips. This topic has come up before and someone said it's worth the $100 to get the Sig name, that is just ridiculous. Sig doesn't give you an endorsement bonus so screw them.

$100 can get you a lot of ammo. We buy guns to shoot and hone a skill, not to be stroked like a pet and shown off to strangers on the internet. It's a tool, not a designer purse!

I hear what you are saying. I own a manufacturing company and know for a fact that things happen and get through. It is all about how the problems are handled.

Thank you for the website. I will look (once I get some rounds through this gun), but when it comes to purchasing, I like to keep my money local and build a relationship with my local gun shop. Never know when one might need them.

Damn I hate this 10 day waiting period.

I looked at getting one also to go with my sig 1911s, but damn it feels cheap. The kimber one is a much better gun IMO it has an actual feed ramp and the build seems much tighter. But they both feel cheap to me, the price tag for the kimber sure ain't cheap though.

I love my GSG. We put 1000+ rounds through it on Monday with no problems other than ammo. It likes anything CCI and Remington Golden Bullets. Doesn't like Winchester White Box. As long as we kept feeding it ammo it liked, we had no problems.

I picked up CW's. Spring Guide, Recoil Spring, Guide Plug and Barrel Bushing while it was sitting in jail. I also picked up some Houge Grips and CW's load assist tool. And of course four more mags. To use the load assist tool I had to remove the center guide pin from the mag. It was either that or drill a hole. According to the website the mags will work fine without the pin and they were correct. No issues.

After I installed all of the CW upgrade goodies I removed the mag safety lock. I like to be able to drop the hammer without a mag in place if I need to.

It shot nice tight groups without touching the sights. Better than my Ruger SR22 or my M&P 22.

I did clean it and Frog Lube it before it went out the first time.

Since I changed so many parts without shooting it first I can't report how it does out of the box.

Since it's first outing I have removed the ambi safety and replaced it with an Ed Brown single safety. I used an Ed Brown safety detent and spring as well.

Easily my favorite 22 and one of my favorite guns.

I had the Kimber conversion prior to getting the GSG. The GSG is more reliable than the Kimber by far. And the GSG, whole gun, cost about the same as the Kimber upper.

Sorry for the bump, but I picked up my GSG on Friday and went to Los Altos Rod and Gun Club on Saturday (holy crap was it cold). Unfortunatly, the gun did not perform well. I had many Fail to Load and Fail to Eject (around 30 to 40% mixed).

When I picked up the gun, I asked if I should take it apart and lube anything and was told that there was no need because the gun came from the factory "ready to fire". Well, after putting about 200 rounds through it, I got frustrated and decided to stop. I took the gun apart and found the gun to be dry (very little if any lubrication). So, I cleaned and lubed on Sunday and will be trying again this coming weekend. Wish me luck.

My Sig 1911 TTT, on the otherhand, performed flawlessly.

You need to be shooting higher powered ammo. Sounds like the ammo you were shooting was too weak to cycle the gun. Break it in a bit with high powered ammo. The Sig and GSG are the same mechanically. Both are produced by GSG in the same factory. From time to time people will get a lemon from Sig as well; whether it's a pistol or rifle. If you continue to have problems, SEND IT BACK. The folks at ATI/GSG are very pleasant to deal with.

Whatever superiority people keep thinking the Sig possess is nothing more than psychological.

I have the Sig version and it fired 200 rounds of CCI Minimags without any issues. I then tried a box of Federal Automatch and it fail to eject almost every mag and had numerous FTF. I went back to the Minimags and all is good again. Also, look at some upgrades from CW Accessories. It might improve on the performance. At the very least, get their loader assist button for the magazines. It's a great tool.
