You are correct, the manufacturers didn't have a contingency plan for the ammo famine.
Consider this (.22, 9mm, 5.56/.223, 7.62x39 etc etc etc) ammo grab preparation for the tough times that are ahead.
All you guys that are buying stuff to shoot with your kids need to realize that when they are your age the America we are living in now, will be very very dead.
Teach them to shoot, AND make preparing the most economical and utilitarian collection of firearms and ammunition a priority.
Everybody needs to deal with the fact that while .22 ammo is great for letting Jr. dink a few beer cans, ammo is cash, probably better than gold/silver in a real crisis.
If you have kids that you want to pass shooting onto, a lifetime supply is not enough.
Sacrifice and only shoot when your kids can go with you so your inventory builds.
Don't just use them for an excuse to by guns/ammo, make them THE reason.
A storms a comin' people, hunker down.
Well said. I have enough for my kids to shoot for quite a while, I think. As long as I leave the 10/22 @ home. Thanks to all in this thread and many others for making that happen without standing in the soup line at WW and the local gander and dicks. Also the ammo is as good or better than money in the bank as I don't see any reason for it to lose value... Who knows maybe they can sell what they don't shoot and pay for college!

you guys really believe the 22 is going go away because of the political leanings in our country? I can understand higher calibers, but 22...really?

If you really feel that way wouldn't your time and effort be better spent fighting to protect our 2A rights? Buying up ammo just seems like a bandaid to what you think is the real problem, not to mention you are exacerbating the other problem of the ammo shortage.

apparently you haven't heard that Democratic politicians in California (whose majority is guaranteed in perpetuity by demographics) are working diligently against the 2nd Amendment. they WILL succeed in making ammunition acquistion difficult and expensive in this state as part of their overall anti-2A program.

for California residents, building a lifetime supply of ammo is a rational, prudent course of action.

if that interferes with the ability of free state residents to find ammo, too bad.

I keep getting the alarm from a change on the rimfire section of gander and when I go to it there is no change. To be honest, I haven't personally seen ANYTHING on gander since I found this thread about 10 days ago.

Isn't all this "hoard all the ammo you can because the Democrats are coming" talk better suited for the "Ammohaulics Anonymous" thread instead of the "Ammo Finds -- Post Them Here" thread?

They keep changing the Fed 525 page ever so slightly, I've begun to ignore the alerts at this point

EDIT: All you nuts worrying about 'lifetime supplies', what are you gonna do with that ammo when obama confiscates yer gunsz!

I'm not trying to get a lifetime supply, I'm trying to get a SHTF supply and enough extra to keep me shooting.

The comparison chart at cabela's keeps switching from not available, to being fully populated so I keep getting alerts each time it switches. That's the only action I have seen all morning.

i have 5k rounds so as long as I only shoot once a month I should be able to not use it if I can score a brick every 2-3 weeks.

                              1. They're in it for themselves...
                              2. They're in it for others...

                              3. I'm in it for my family's future. Judging from some other recent posts, I suspect I'm not alone. (Nod to Shorthair in particular). I'd be even more motivated if I lived in a far-left stronghold like California, New York, or Connecticut.

Glad I live in Utah - where you can walk into a gun store and buy an ak and a pistol without any permits. I grew up in Connecticut and you have to wait 14 days before you can pick up any firearm.
