Help: Best upgrades for 10/22

If you had just had about 250-$300 to spend on any upgrades including optics. What would you buy and why?

As I wait for the market to calm down on my AR build I want another project. I have been plinking with my brothers for years and want to buy some good upgrades for it. What do you rec.? My budget is $300 (w optic)

Skip the optics and get a KIDD two stage trigger!

You want the best? Then what ^ said because that is the best upgrade for 300 dollars. KIDD 2 stage trigger is awesome.

I just got a Green Mountain 20" BB, the KIDD charging handle with guide rod and springs, and a Boyd Stock. Now I gotta save for that trigger and a new bolt.

I went with Volquartsen trigger components (Est 2.5# pull?), Green Mountain 18" BB, Boyd Stock (tacticool) and a cheapo Simmons scope from Amazon.
I also bought a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head; spent about $450...

If I could do it again I probably would've just gotten the trigger set and scope.

You can spend allot of money on a 10/22 very quickly. Unless something is in need of repair/replacement, an optic would be more than enough of an upgrade for a 'plinker'.

Don't overlook the KIDD single stage TG!

1.5 to 5# end user adjustable pull weight. Breaks crisp and clean w/zero pre-travel and over travel. I like mine! The OEM Ruger TG is rough, gritty and just plain no fun after using the KIDD.

Also, remember the free and low cost mods like the auto bolt release mod. About 5 minutes with a Dremel/20 minutes with a file. And replace the bolt buffer!

#1 The trigger. You ca either replace your hammer with a Volquartsen hammer kit for a 2.5lb pull or replace it with a great trigger like a Kidd.

#2 Get a target barrel and a new stock but match the barrel and stock to what you plan to use it for. A steel barrel for fine target work or a lightweight Tactical Solutions or WhistlePig aluminum barrel for hunting and plinking.

1) Get a modest priced hammer/trigger kit (you don't need a Kidd at this time = 300.00)
2) Bolt buffer
3) Take the barrel band off and float the barrel
4) Get a bolt job - https://sites.google.com/site/quesplace/ It solves a multitude of issues
5) Simmons rimfire scope
6) More mags. & ammo

The kit includes:

• hammer
• hammer spring
• bushings
• shims
• trigger return spring
• bolt release (allows shooter to release bolt by pulling bolt slightly to the rear)

The kit cost me $35.99 from MidwayUSA. 15 minutes is what it took to install, and all the parts dropped in without fitting. The resulting trigger pull was probably less than 2#... probably lighter than a S&W revolver on SA, and actually too light for my preference. So, I re-installed just the stock trigger return spring to add some resistance. This added maybe 1/2 lb. And, it's a tremendous improvement over the stock trigger.

My 10/22 is FAR more enjoyable to shoot.

I would get auto bolt release, extended bolt handle and extended mag release. Probably cost 50$ or less if you shop around

My 10/22 had extraction issues straight out of the box. Some do, some don't.

As you can see a lot of varying opinions and plenty of options on how to modify and make your 10/22 better?fit your needs.

If anything maybe get a rimfire scope like the Simmons or BSA sweet22 (I think that's what its called). Spend the rest of your money on ammo and mags.

Thanks for all your input, I have been doing some reading on rimfirecentral as well but DAM there is so many things you can do. I will start off prob with Volq bolt release and hammer kit, scope (not sure which $75-$125), bolt buffer then maybe a barrel.
It is primarly a plinking/target rifle and I love the sucker stock but I'm sure I will enjoy even more after these upgrades take place
