Federal .22 LR Ammo

Just bought a few thousand rounds of Federal 40 grain copper plated solid point. I normally only shoot CCI Mini Mags out of my 10/22 and Ruger SR22 and love them but nobody has them in stock. Very few FTFs or FTEs with the CCIs.

What about these Federals, are they any good? Reliable feeding and ejecting? Accuracy? Anyone shoot the Federals on a regular basis? How are they?

I like bulk Federal for plinking ammo. All of my semi autos will eat them just fine. They tend to have a few more FTF than CCIs due to the inconsistancy of equal primer compound distribution but, not many more. Accuracy is fine. Then again, "accuracy" is about proper site alignment. "Precision" is probably what you ment. The precision of Federals is fine for Appleseed type events or plinking. For anything beyond that, I'd jump up to standard velocity target ammo and forget about mini mags or other supersonic ammo.

For me they've been pretty inconsistent. Sometimes I'll shoot through a whole brick with my P22 without a problem. Other times ill open a new brick and about 25% of them won't have enough power to function the slide on the P22. And my P22 is well worked in. It fires any other type of ammo perfectly fine.

But I have over 20k of them I got on sale years ago, so I keep shooting them. They function fine in all my other 22's.

I used Federal "auto match" from a 325 round bulk box, with my Remington 513T with a 10x scope . Based on my experience at the match, I would recommend Federal Auto Match for precision plinking.

I've had no issues with Federal bulk in my Sig 522 or Ruger Mark3 hunter- I actually just stocked up big time

I saw a few boxes at Dodge City yesterday. Federal has worked fine in my 10/22. Don't recall any FTF issues out of the several hundred I've shot at this point. Better than the Rem green-box stuff.

Federal Champion #745 bulk packs is my favorite bulk packs, they have been pretty consistent reliability, they have been better than average in my finicky competition Ruger 22/45 and they have a nice kick.

Federal #510 bulk packs is my #2...but more duds.

Federal, American Eagle Bulk packs...don't like these...many FTF, FTE, dirty and really SMOKEY!!!

Remington Golden Bullets, includes "New and Improved"...worst of the worst...never buy again....loose bullet heads, duds, light loading..etc...

CCI-Mini-Mags: Hollow Point or Solid, my go to round for my Competition Ruger 22/45...so far 100%.

My opinion is based on being CHEAP, reliability, consistent ignition and extraction...not based on tight groupings.

I buy the federal bulk 525 rounds for my dads MP15-22 it runs them great they Are just a little dirty. I also have some federal target ammo which I have not tried out yet.

If they're in a red and white box then those work just as good as the CCI's if not better. In the past I did allot of 22lr shooting when times were tough on my wallet just like these days now.

Anyway shoot them in confidense buddy:-)

I have never had an issue with any 22lr projectiles since I got my 10/22 last year.

I have tried the cheap to mini-mags, with maybe 1 FT-Fire out of 2.5k, and it was not golden bullets, mostly federal.

Thanks for the feedback guys. They were definitely not my first choice, I really prefer CCI, but these were all I could find in stock. As far as I am concerned, Remington ammo in general is bad, I have some UMC 9mm that is terrible, have tried their .223, just don't like Remington at all.

What about Aguila? A few places still have it. I have had good results with their .45 ACP ammo, is there .22 any good?

At what retail chains is it sold?
