    Ruger 10/22 takedown thoughts/issues?

I really want a Ruger 10/22 and the takedown model definitely seems cool but I've hear it can have some issues aligning the 2 pieces. I know there is a great sticky explaining how to fix this issue but I was just wondering how many people experience this issue and whether or not Ruger has fixed it yet or plans to fix it soon.

    Let me know! Thanks!

Mine came in perfect alignment, but I had to monkey with it anyway for the heck of it.

Nothing to it really. Beautiful rifle.

Mine came perfect, check the end of the barrel that goes into the receiver for discoloration from heat treatment. It should be kind of dark rainbow ish in colour

I love this rifle! My wife has one and she earned her Rifleman patch at her first Appleseed using a red dot on it. There are many nice upgrade kits available too (triggers, mag releases, sights, etc). I'm getting my own out of jail next week!

First one I bought had the barrel canted downwards about 3-5 degrees... nothing like the alignment sticky on this site. Sent it back for a replacement and after a little complaining to Ruger they paid for my 2nd DROS fees (they mailed me a check) and threw in a couple of free mags.

No problems with the new one. I put a scope, a comb riser, auto bolt release and a Kidd trigger 'job' and I'm happy now!

That thread says how to fix the issue, but does not say how to detect said alignment issue. I want to know how to detect the "alignment issue".

                  Thank you

this is the first sentence from the alignment fix thread

"picked up my 10/22 TD from turners last night. when i inspected my rifle i noticed that it had an alignment issue, the fore end tilted to the left. turners kindly showed me 3 more new rifles and they all had that problem. i accepted the rifle because i trust the Ruger name."

I suspect it was an issue wit hthe very first run. Mine did not have the problem so many others seemed to have had - it shoots true and has from day 1.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

I think you're worrying about it way too much. My Dad's fore end came slightly misaligned, I would guess it took us a whole 17 seconds to find the thread, read it, and make the adjustment to get it aligned perfectly. It really wasn't a big deal, don't let it stand in the way of you getting one of these rifles, they are very fun.

FYI, Ruger now has a new model take-down. Threaded barrel, alloy. Not sure if it will make it to Cali?

Make sure the breech end of the barrel is heat treated.

Inspect the rifle completely before walking out with it.

I almost got 'slipped a Mickey' at the store but requested another unit and it was a good one.
