    10/22 Build

Great way to make your 10/22 heavy.

    DSC00112.jpg

Boyds Tacticool unfinished stock, Bushnell 4x12 Dust to Dawn scope, Adams & Bennett barrel (.920, 1 in 16, 18", Blue).

What color should I stain the stock? I was thinking a dark red or black cherry, possibly a blue.

Looks cool. Think you should paint it camo and poly urethane the hell out it. Also get a bipod. Whats with the red tape at the end?

        be careful when you stain.

Be careful when you stain. I have the same stock and when I stained it,
it came out very blotchy. I even used a wood sealer before hand. Other people have had the same problem. Not sure what the answer is. I also took a belt sander to one side and shaped the stock to fit my hand (palm). Nice improvement. That is one advantage to buying a non finished stock. You can
modify it to meet your needs. I ended up painting it textured black. I also bedded the action. Now it "machine fit to the action. As suggested above,
I added a rail on the bottom front for bipod mounting.
Have fun, the tacicool stock is a real improvement over the Ruger stock. You will enjoy it.

Thank you, when I was sanding it down I noticed some blotches that were darker than the rest of the stock, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? What kind of stain did you use?

I used miniwax waterbased and a pre sealer. (dont know the brand). I think with laminate stocks it is just the nature of the beast. You can try doing a test stain on the interior were the action goes or under the barrel. I think If you find a good solution, please let us know.
One other mod I did was to carve a channel were the safety switch is. Now you don't have to center it to remove the action.

The poor lighting doesn't allow you to see the details.
I received the stock, sanded with 320 (3 separate times over 7 days), put on rubber gloves, used a brand new tack cloth to gently remove any crap, bought some Gemini Boston Cherry stain. I stained the stock in a somewhat dust free, cold garage using the following setup:

The result is good so far, I'll post the final result tomorrow when it is dry:

Back in the oven at 125 for 30 minutes...to get the WOOD GRAIN to pop out.
                    Sand...repeat.

                    Then finish with TRU OIL

I like it. I've put 3 coats of Tru-oil on so far, may leave it at that for the time being; can always add more later.

I will post another photo of the complete gun
