Marlin Model 81-DL peep sights

My Marlin Model 81-DL has factory peep-sights. I understand they came with different size peeps. The only one I have is the larger aperture. Is it easy to find the small aperture peeps? There seems to be a dovetail blank in the barrel about 4" forward of the receiver. It's been there so long it looks like it's almost molded to the barrel. If I can't find a smaller peep I was thinking about putting a red dot sight on it. Any thoughts?

The dovetail on the barrel is just there as a filler for the rifle sight, which would have been there, if they had shipped it with a regular rifle sight.
