JC Higgins (Hi Standard) Model 31

Trying to find a bolt operating handle for this. Numrich is sold out...any suggestions? It looks like gun-parts may have it, but their website is a little strange and I haven't used them before. Recommendations would be appreciated...it is tough finding parts for a rifle that is almost 60 years old.

I have a JC Higgins 31 also, my bet is the bolt handle for the Ted Williams 34 will fit - or that it can easily be made to fit.

The bolt handle on these things isn't exactly a precisely fitted part. Heck, an older Marlin 60 handle might work also.

My concern on fitting would be to ensure the handle weighs about the same and if fitting is required it is of the "remove metal" type rather than adding. For example, if the Ted Williams handle is a touch wider and thicker metal can be removed from it to fit in the cut out on top of the bolt. If the Williams part is already thinner, the fit will be overly slopppy.

Thanks, that is kind of what I was thinking...might be stuck having to modify a similar one, I was just hoping I could find one and not have to break out the dremmel. Thanks for the recommendation on the close cousin.

On rimfirecentral.com in the hi standard forum a member made a charge handle out of aluminum for a 31. He claimed a friend used CNC but I think they used a file it is a simple part. He made a large ugly handle but it worked.

Thanks, I saw that (looks like a squished racquetball for the handle). Thought about going that route, but thought getting a replacement for $20 would be a better use of time and resources and that it would work the right way and last longer...just didn't think it would be this hard to find one, unfortunately. I appreciate the reference though.

I bought the last 3 after looking them up - pay me big $$$$$ .....

Just guessing a bit, but I'd try the Marlin 60 "old model". They're only $10.00 and look wide enough. You'll probably have to do some fitting.
