My friend has a brand new Colt AR15-22. After every shot he has to slightly pull the trigger forward until it makes a click sound. At that point it is ready to fire. What could be a possible cause and correction?

Colt AR15-22 trigger issue

It's probably either a metal burr or weak spring and something S&W will fix at no charge. Honestly the standard ~7lb GI trigger sucks so bad that I'd just replace it with a Rock River Arms two-stage or better yet a Geissele SSA when they become available again. But with the panic drying up AR15 parts you may have to settle for getting S&W to fix it for now.
