Just like we should have a .40 is better than 9mm sticky?

I think there might be too much opinion being thrown around.

Way too much personal opinion regarding magnification for what distance, what brands are trash(and the weirdos who think they aren't), reticles, mounts, etc.

Pretty much any optic once you get basics out of the way and eliminate the garbage products comes down to purely personal opinion.

I like the idea. Here is a link that covers a ton of questions without recommendations for any particular scope. I posted this link earlier today in the rimfire forum here. I agree with Merc1138 that a lot of inputs on scopes contain personal opinion but the link below does not do that but rather explains the nomenclature and general guidlines for selecting the size together with the use of the scope. Nice read for your consideration.

Hey yall. I have a H&R Sportster .22WMR that I am interested in scoping. However, I have little experience with scopes, with the exception of using one or 2 scoped rifles that were already sighted in. I have no clue how exactly to work with a scope, as far as sighting it in is concerned. I...

Izzy, that Article about Scopes is great! Forgive me, but the Scope adjustment to "the point of impact" confuses me. If I have a good sight picture & I`m centered "dead on" to say, a small red dot, & the first Bullet goes dead left. Do I really adjust my "x" or crosshairs to the point of Impact??? Seems most do it backwards.

What`s better & does it make a Difference?
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

I`ll Edit one of these, lol. I get that we wanna zero where the barrel`s actually sending a round. I`ll start with that & dial it in!

I don't understand your question. Assuming your rifle isn't changing position, you can't change the point of impact, so you change the point of aim so it matches the point of impact. There's nothing to really be done backwards. You're just making your POA match your POI.

I understand the "match" If I fire a test shot & it goes one inch left of my small intended dot. Most would simply adjust the scope to the right. Thats not what the Article says to do. It says to adjust the scope to the POI, which would be left. I get that. It`s just opposite of what a lot of people do.

It's not the opposite at all.

You change your POA by adjusting the scope, not your POI. You're thinking of changing your POI by adjusting the scope, that's not how it works.

Imagine your rifle is locked into a vice. Fire a shot. You can't change where the barrel is pointing, you change where the scope is pointing.

I agree, your Correct! I`ll do it as it`s intended & I`m sure my results will be better. Sheesh, I`m not even a Master of the Obvious!

Your understanding how I did it last time right? Just being honest, didnt know any better.

The last thing the rimfire forum needs is another sticky, especially a topic that when searched will reveal numerous duplicate threads.

Well maybe it's ok if you have an EBT card.

                            What a constructive post!
We sure are glad that you added your wisdom to the thread.

Fact is that's an impartial list gathered from the scopes that have been recommended in the two Marlin 795 threads and numerous threads about scopes that come up all the time.

We are talking rimfire, you don't need a super expensive scope on one. The above list covers all sorts of price points. Fact is most of the "What scope should I get?" threads are looking for a scope that is ~50 bucks. Anyways Nikon and Mueller scopes are not exactly what most people would consider cheap.
Sorry I did not include more brands like US Optics and Nightforce in the list.

But by all means please show us your list of scope brands for rimfire.

I think that's kind of the point. In hopes that a comprehensive thread on the subject will cut down on dupes. But as we can see from all the "Is my rifle legal" and "why can't I have highcaps" threads that doesn't always work.

Though I agree a lot of the sticky posts should probably be unstuck..

Happy to know I own 2 of the (so called) Listed Scopes. I may not have a Ton of Cash, but I`m NOT on EBT. The Simmons (EBT) .22 Magnum Model I just removed was outstanding. I replaced it with a Nikon (EBT GHETTO) 3X9X40 "Brown Bag/Curb" Model. I`m Thrilled to be Droppin` EBT Cards & Medi-Cal Cards at 50 Yards.
