I will always choose aluminum over plastic.
If you already have a 5.56 lower, get a CMMG upper.
If you do not have a lower or 5.56 rifle, build a lower, buy a CMMG upper, buy a 5.56 upper down the road.
Of course once you build a lower and see how easy it is, you will end up with a second lower anyhow.

The M & P 15/22 lower cannot be used for anything but the 15/22 upper.

My friend has the Colt from Big 5, he has had a lot of feeding issues and the bolt does not hold open any longer.

I have a M&P15-22 and it shoots great. Even better with a nicer trigger.

I am building a dedicated rimfire upper. I'm only doing it because I have an SBR lower and want to run a short barrel, suppressor and slidefire.

Why am I telling you this? Because unless you are really looking to do something special with it, just get the S&W and be done with it.

Put about 2k rounds through my 15-22, everything from CCI, to Federal Bulk Packs, not a single hiccup. Cheaper then an upper, and you get an entire rifle, no brainer.

Not really an AR but the Sig522 is very good and doesn't use proprietary mags like the M&P 15-22 does(which is really a Umarex).

Mine used to have feeding issues until I adjusted the bolt spring. I tightened the adjusting spring all the way in and now it shoots bulk federal. I still have a few fail to fire with the federal but not with the cci blazer. I hope this helps.

I have a CMMG dedicated upper and couldn't be happier. That things shoots flawless everything I feed it and is accurate.

If you have any questions about it ask shadow65. He's super knowledgeable on them and he's the one who recommended it to me.

+1! CMMG upper is a very nice setup! Mine shoots consistently and accurately.

I found the M&P 15-22 for $500...I'm not 100% sure that I like it THAT much. I wish I could find it for a little cheaper. $400 was already pushing it.
