    Best Hunting Ammo

    Gents

Still learning about the .22. What is your prefered .22LR ammo for hunting?

    Thanks

Depends somewhat on what you are hunting and the distance. These are known for their accuracy and delivering a good amount of energy on small game such as tree squirrels, ground squirrels and rabbits. A plus is that they are also quieter than High Velocity or Hyper Velocity ammo and are less likely to run off the other game that you are hunting. Sorry the vendor that I liked to is out of stock.

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discounts, gun care accessories and more

What kind of hunting are you doing?

For Ground squirrel control out at my familys ranch, I use Aguilla Sniper Sub Sonics... They have a 60 grain bullet and smack with authority. It is best to have a faster twist barrel. GM makes a 1/9 twist for the 10/22 that is specific for this round. But I shoot them through a tactical solutions barrel with no issues at 50-100 yards. They are accurate, quiet and good at bringing down small to medium game. I have taken coyotes with my little ruger and this ammo before.

I would second the CCI Stingers. I have found them to be accurate as I can be out a a stock Ruger 10/22.

Do the stingers tear up the small critters on other than head shots?

I prefer subsonic for hunting ground dwelling critters. Solid points don't damage meat. Aguila SSS work too. Like throwing bricks <100 yds. ymmv

CCI CB rounds are great. Virtually no noise.

People have been putting meat on the table with .22s before there was a CCI or Aguila. Everyone has their favorite round. Mine is the CCI Velocitors, but like mkane said, go out to the range with a bunch of different ammo and see what your rifle shoots best at the distance you can see yourself taking game at.

                      Thanks for the input gents.

I actually have the Aguila but they don't cycle my semi auto most of the time. So I was looking a non sub sonic as an alternative.

I may decided to get a lever action for the subsonic rounds.

Here another question. Are their any bad brands of ammo out there?

Dont you have to use lead free ammo?
