    Probably an old question

Forgive me if this has been asked a thousand times before but I am new to Calguns. I have an AR that I love to shoot, but ammo is kinda pricey. I would like to purchase either an .22 conversion kit for my AR, or pick up another rifle all together that is already .22 any thoughts???

I would buy the conversion kit unless you don't want to have to take it down every time you want to switch ammo. I bought the Colt M4 in .22 when they first came out and now wished that I had the real deal 5.56 and the .22 kit but money was a concern and most AR type rifles were twice the price of mine at the time. Now you can pick up an entry level AR for under $600. I thought about doing just that and having one of each caliber so I could shoot both on the same outing!

CMMG has conversion kits that drop right in; they go for about $140 or so depending on which retailer has them on sale...google it up, and good luck!

.22 conversions are usially not near as accurate as dedicated .22lr rifles and you usially have to change you sights when you swap calibers...that being said for $160 its pretty cheep to find out for yourself if you like it!

you other option is to purchase a dedicated .22 AR upper, but $300 for that puts you in the price range of a stand-alone .22.

I like the idea of buying a .22 rifle, most likely a Ruger 10-22. But part of me wants to use my AR due to the fact I spent so much money on it in the first place

if you want to use the AR and have some decent level of accuracy shooting .22's, then you need a dedicated upper. conversion kits are cheaper, but your accuracy will suffer!
