ZERO ???

I have a brand new Ruger 10/22 with a mueller APV scope. What is the proper/recommended distance used to zero this rifle? Thanks in advance!

Whatever distance you want. Some people use 50 yards, some 25, some 100. It's entirely personal preference. I suggest you go do some reading and learn how to understand bullet drop since that's why someone would generally choose one distance over another.

This, and find your zero at say 25yrds. Set a target at 50yrds aim at the same spot. How much lower was that hit? Then start going farther out shooting, get to know where the bullet drops on your scope at those distences. Good luck! shooting is fun

Whatever distance you are going to shoot at most. My .22s are sighted in at 50 yards, and it works well for 50 in.

Yup... ditto on 50. You're pretty much lobbing it @ 100. If you have a accurate bull barrel you can get consistent results at that distance, but 50 is really what 22LR is meant for.

It doesn't take a bull barrel to be able to shoot .22lr at 50 yards. .22lr was also never "meant" for 50. Maybe you aren't noticing that other people are shooting .22lr beyond 50 yards, but plenty of people do it.

I was talking about 100 and beyond in reference to bull barrels.

My APV is zeroed at 50 yards...challenging but not frustrating!

As you get comfortable, stretch it out to 100.

Here's my opinion. It depends on the ammunition and target size (if going for the maximum point blank range of the round).

According to Chuck Hawks data, a 40 grain bullet at 1255 fps has a MPBR of 90 yards. It will be three inches low at 100 yards and has a MRT of +1.5".

I zeroed my CZ 453 for 80 yards. It's been awhile so I don't remember exactly how I came up with 80 yards, but it requires little to no hold over out to about 100 yards.

If you're benchrest shooting at a certain distance then that is your answer.

I zero at 25 yds, then workout the comeups for different distances. With my 10/22's, shooting whatever ammo is currently cheap at WalMart, I typically have to come up around 8" @ 100 (up 32 clicks on my scope, or up 8 clicks on my techsites). If you have the interest, Appleseed would be a great place to get zeroed and dial in the basics.

OP, I used the little Kit with 2 Levels to Zero my Scope to Receiver. Getting a one piece Scope Base & the Kit made a Tremendous difference, but that`s just me.

I sight at 50 yards. Ammo, Bullet Drop & "average" distance will be keys. Not sure there`s an average, jus` sayin.
