Tell me why or why not to buy this bad boy

I am picking one up next week for sure, the 22/45 5.5"Bull Barrel has been on my mind for awhile now, I am way overdue for one. In my opinion, it's one of the best platforms to train the basic fundamentals and plink all day with out hurting the wallet.

Based on my homework:

They are Accurate, Reliable, eats bulk Ammo for Lunch, price is right, Two magazines and a Rail? are included out the box and Mags cost 18$ Each+/- for future reference.

Only downside from what I've read: Magazine Disconnect, Magazines does not drop freely out the box, a pain to break down to clean but gets easier over time, Loaded Chamber Indicator "only MKIII series", front heavy? but I am not complaining.

Aftermarket parts can fix all those issues and are cheap/affordable, as well as a cool Project to suit your specific needs.

Why? Becase it's a great 22 that will last some years and the ammo is cheap but the gun aint. If Ruger can make anything it's 22s!
Why not? Cause it will become an addition to 22 shooting that will make you want more and then you may have to get stuff for it like a new trigger and optics and grasp!....another gun!

Cant really go wrong with a 22/45
May want to look into something a little different like a Great Eight or a 6-7/8 slab side Target pistol.

Great gun, eats anything and is really fun to shoot. Great as it is or easy to mod using readily available, reasonably priced parts.

OP, the 22/45 is a great pistol. Because of it's great accuracy, reliability, cost to shoot, & cost to purchase, I consider it my most fun gun. I'm envious that you live in a free state. I'd get the RP model and eventually put a TacSol Pac-Lite upper on it

You should at least play with Brownings and maybe SR22 and ???? because it is all about how the grip fits your hand, but since the 22/45 is 1911 hard to go wrong.

I'm into long barrels, but maybe for training a shorter sight radius would be train me to use...shorter sight radius sights.

I've heard the extra barrel length doesn't do much ballistically.

Yeah I'm not going to be much help with your question. I say buy it.

I have had on since 2000 and It has run like a clock . It is well used and I would recommend one with out reservation. You do not have to always disassemble it to clean it, and it doesn't need to be cleaned all the time just keep it lubed. Lots of parts available for it.

I love mine. It can be a PITA to break down until you do it a few times. More complicated than it needs to be.
I do live in a free state and put a threaded PacLite upper on it.

Why? Its a fantastic gun at a great price. I picked mine up from alquist arms in Turlock and its definitely become one of my favorite guns. I just put a bit over 500 rounds through it over the weekend, the first time shooting it, and my first target is shown in the pic below. Fun gun, cheap to own and shoot, and darn accurate. I broke it down to install a sam lam bushing to drop the mags and did the slingshot mod (just need to add a spring or something in there now), and have a cheap red dot on it. It was a PITA to take apart at first, but after doing it the first few times to install the parts and triple check its function, pretty much have it memorized now. The one thing I do not like, is that I have the molded grip version. It really does feel like it is too thin but I have a slip on grip to remedy that soon. I know the RP model can replace grips and that many people have dremeled off the grips to use true 1911 grips or had plastic/rubber slip on grips installed from a maker on the rimfire forums, I believe. Great gun though, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone interested.

Don't know about you, but bought mine because it was $200.00 at turner's last month (store opening). Oh, also the reviews were great!
