M&P 15-22 or CMMR Dedicated .22lr upper

Hello All,

I am looking to get my first AR Trainer.

I am debating whether to get the M&P15-22 or a CMMG upper.

I don't have a lower.

I like the fact the M&P15-22 mimics the functions like a real AR.

Would a CMMG upper do the same?

If you get the CMMG .22LR upper setup and the necessary standard lower, you can always swap to a centerfire upper when you're ready. I don't believe you can do that with the M&P15-22, and it's pretty much a plastic gun (if that matters to you).

Our CMMG has all the function of its big brother but it does require a couple small additional parts to do it. It is not a Plastic Rifle however as stated..And to confirm the lower is only good for .22. Spend the money if you can and do it right the first time.

Either one is fine. I've had an m&p 15-22 for a while and it does great. I do plan on building a dedicated 22 upper to put on an sbr. If I wasn't going to put it on an sbr I probably wouldn't do it.

I've shot plenty of both and I'm happy every time I pull my dedicated out of the safe. Its just higher quality.

For nearly a similar price, I think it is a no brainer to not just buy the M&P and have yet another stand alone dedicated weapon to draw upon.

I am in the same situation, I ordered an M&P rather than a conversion for one of the other AR's.

This also gives me a stand alone, lighter weapon for my girl or a kid.

I have a fully customized AR with many upgrades on my lower including Timmny trigger, Magpul stock and grip, etc...I chose the CMMG upper so I could have all of these features on my .22.

I'd suggest that you get a CMMG upper and later on you can build a nice AR.

I know people like the M&P but honestly with .22 uppers available they don't make any sense to me.

go with the m&p 15-22, it works great , all the controls are the same , it is acurate , very light weight , my lady has one and i love to shoot it. Plus building a dedicated upper - then you have an upper sitting all alone whether it be the .22 or a .223/5.56

I think I am ordering one of these over the weekend. They are "supposebly" more accurate than a CMMG upper, CMMG is coming out with a precision "Tango" unit, but it hasnt hit retail shelves yet.. so I am going with Taccom for this winters 22LR league shoots.

The TACCOM upper I have tested show nice accuracy.
About 1/2" at 50 yards with a scope and Wolf MT.

They can also be set up with a different hand guard down the road if you choose. Any free float that fits a standard AR will fit the TACCOM.

The new barrels have a threaded option.

So far as the "Tango". I have one and while it is great, I don't look for production models any time soon. Basically, mine is a hand fitted barrel/bolt set up.
The tester I work with shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards, believe it or not.
Amazing for a .22 AR upper.
