1st AR CMMG Revolution 22LR Impressions and Issues

    Setup:

CMMG Revolution Upper with 22LR Panels

    CMMG Stainless bolt and collar
New Frontier Armory LW-15 Polymer Lower (No centerfire upper yet so no BB)
    CMMG BHOA
Magpul MOE Rifle Stock with A2 buffer kit
Daniel Defense rear fixed sight and UTG front sight
CMMG 22LR Magazine Black skeletonized Gen 2?

Since the Revo upper is ambidextrous there are screw-on plastic/polymer panels on both sides for different setups. Half of the left panel blew off several feet behind me and missed my face when a round blew up inside. Note the Crack by the crew. I've put it back in place temporarily. The white blotch on the crack is after whacking it back into place.

Here is the panel that blew off

It was a nasty Remington Thunderbolt. I figured I shoot various brands to test it out. It was about the 20th round of Thunderbolt that malfunctioned.

I proceeded to skip the Federal Lightning and Blazer rounds and went straight to the Mini Mags after reattaching the panel and no failures after that.

I have yet to sight it in yet since I was having trouble adjusting the front sight correctly but figured it out after I got home. The rear sight adjusted fine.

    Contact CMMG about the panel.
I had a discussion not long ago about this very potential issue.
An AT upper is designed to blow up or down in case of a OBD.
I was concerned about the side panels and what might happened in the event of an OBD.
    So there is the result.
I'll stick with my mil spec uppers.

OBD's are generally caused by crud build up on the chamber/bolt face. Keeps the bolt from fully closing.
This can happen quickly with dirty ammo like the Remington.
      Keep it clean.

Yeah, I'd call CMMG. I also agree that the panel blew because it was plastic and likely wouldn't have done that if it were aluminum and that CMMG should replace the panel under warranty. I blame CMMG for the panel breaking, and I blame remington for the crappy ammo.

But man... when are people going to stop shooting thunderbolts?

"Why does my gun get dirty faster shooting thunderbolts"
"Why does my barrel have lead build up shooting thunderbolts"
"Why does my gun blow up shooting thunderbolts"

Not trying to bag on you specifically, I just wish enough people would stop buying the things so remington would get a clue and straighten out their act.

give us a buzz Monday and we will replace your panel. With an OOB the panel may give, as in your case, with no damage to receiver.

As soon as we hear from you we will get one on its way to you.

Thank you guys. It was about the 20th round of Rem and it cause enough build up to do this? This stuff is horrid! I'll stick with CCI from now on. I figured I give it a shot lol. No offense taken, Merc. I should have known better.

CMMG, thanks for the the quick response. I noticed the right panel is bulging in the middle where there was no gaps before. Perhaps that can be replaced also?

For cheap shooting, I recommend the Winchester or Federal 36 gr. copper wash bulk pack sold at Walmart for about $20. 550 rounds

Just so you guys know, I also have a Revolution upper or my Tango build with several hundred rounds through it and no issues. So it's not the norm.

Everything seems to be moving slow right now. I'll see if I can get it expedited.

Stay away from Remington ammo. Just my .02. 36 grain Winchester Hollow points are what I use.

Remington .22LR ammo isn't good for ANY gun in my experience
