    Scope for 10/22 Takedown....

Has anyone found a compact scope that will accomplish:

    PRICE: under $200

..ability to store receiver with scope attached in the backpack? I am guessing overall length of the scope cannot exceed 10"

    ..3-9 or perhaps 2-7 magnification

    ..parallax at 50 yards

    ..decent glass

    ..plinking and small game

    Cheers....

Also, take a look at scopes that are designed for air rifles. The range for high end air rifle are somewhat comparable to a .22 and have parallax at 50 yards, some as low as 10 yards.

This is the set up i use on my 10/22 Takedown:

        Warne Maxima 2 piece base:

        Warne Maxima Quick-Detachable 1" rings:

Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x40 AO Silver:

Warne seems to feel the mount and base combo is pretty solid:
When used on the all steel Warne Maxima bases, we guarantee accuracy of within 1/1000th of an inch when removing and reattaching the optics.
No rings on the receiver so it fits in the bag, barrel goes in one tube and scope in the other and everyhing closes normally!

^ I like that idea, they give you an extra pouch, likely for that reason.

I bought the Nikon fixed 4 power, which is about the same size as their 3-9, and it fits in my bag just fine with the scope on it. On Weaver rings and base.

If it where not for the rebate, I probably would have looked into a Leupold 2-7x33 or similar.

Go just over $200 for a Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 Rimfire or a FX-1 4x28 Rimfire. The VX-1 is only 9.9" long and should work fine and the FX-1 is even shorter 9.2". No need to detach the scope with a small scope. Unless I miss my guess the scope in the video is about 9-1/2" long.

I use a Leupold VX-1 and leupold rings on my TD and it works great. Still fits in the bag when broken down and no issues with a repeatable zero.

After considering all the thoughts everyone shared and looking online and in the stores I made my decision and choose the Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 Rimfire.

Buy once cry once.... I really didn't want to go over $200 but in the end I know, for me, I made the right decision!

Fantastic scope... The clarity of the optics is awesome! I used Leupold's medium rise quick disconnect....the low were not available... Originally I installed the inexpensive vertically split rings but one screw stripped! Truth be told, I was using a torque wrench and it stripped at about 18 inch-pounds, well short of the 20-22 as advertised by Leupold. The QD'S are better anyhow.... :-)

BTW....the rings would not mount on the Ruger rail.... I used a UTG rail with a low profile so if I remove the scope I can still use the iron sights.

Zeroing the scope was simple.... A few rounds and I was done...I will fine tune it when I have more range time!

Thanks to all for their input...

                Cheers....[IMG][/IMG]

                  I just found this http://www.burrisoptics.com/xtrtactical1.html

I think I'm in love but a bit of an over kill for a .22.

However I did find a poor man's version.

The best feature is the mount. The bottom is see through, so you can see your iron sights and it has the rails on top so you can mount a dot sight if you want too.

You can't see the sights on a 10/22 as soon as you mount the rail on it. Its one or the other unless you get rings that mount directly to the receiver. I agree with the fixed 4x Leupold but with a takedown I would keep stock irons on it and make a separate heavy target 22.

Awesome build. You can't trump that simplicity and functionality of the build you have there. Let us know how she does in the accuracy department (I'm sure it won't disappoint)

I tried a scope on mine, but didn't like the fact that it was longer than the front of the stock, when the rifle was broken down. Hated having the front of the scope becoming the front "bumper," when sitting in the bag.

Instead, I found a cheap (~$30) Tasco, 30mm, RDS at my local Wallymart. No magnification, but works out really well, both for shooting and storage.

Sosoomi, how is the eye relief with your scope? When I mounted one, with the front of the scope that far back, I couldn't get a comfortable position on the cheek weld. That Leupold looks pretty compact, shorter than the P-22, so could be a contender for me to (re)consider a scope.

I followed Leupold's directions.... Mounted the scope and slide it forward in the rings....put the rifle to my shoulder and then slid the scope back til I got the sight picture that was good.... That left the scope a bit past the end of the receiver when broken down.... I pulled it back even and it really didn't affect anything...except it fit nicely in the bag :-))

As to cheek weld.... It's ok but not really a concern to me....if it bothers me I would modify the stock and add something like a riser...
