    Ammo - Rifle Test Results - Updated with AR information

    Hi

    I started the test today.
    I started by sighting in, I discovered that I need to update my scope rings for both rifles used. Boy I was unprepared.
    All test where performed in/with:
    * prone position
    * loop sling
    * USGI Shooting jacket
    * 25 yards
    * 1 inch squares
    * Used the rifleman's cadence (1 shot every breath, roughly 1 shot every 3 seconds)
    * 5 shots per square
    * 5 squares per sheet
    * 5 squares per make and model

    I tested for reliability (no misfires), accuracy, functionality (works with equipment).

    Rifles used: Marlin 795, Ruger 10/22 Talo and AR22 CMMG 20" gov profile.
    Each rifles has a usgi web sling and Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x scope set at 1.5x.

    SK Subsonic Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose Hollow Point
    $7.59 (note: this ammo is outside the price criteria, but I wanted to see how subsonic would work.
    Technical Information
    Caliber: 22 Long Rifle
    Bullet Weight: 40 Grains
    Bullet Style: Lead Round Nose

    Ballistics Information:
    Muzzle Velocity: 1033 fps

    I ran short on time so I only tested the Marlin and Ruger, I will follow up with the AR22 later.

    Marlin 795 (Ruger below)
    Rifle Function: 25 rounds worked perfectly
    Ammo reliability: 25 all feed and fired
    Accuracy: I was SEVERELY not in my game today, I need to change rings on both rifles, my sight picture was shaded when I would use a solid turkey check and check weld.
    But overall accuracy was superb, minus my obvious NPOA misses and sight picture issues.

    Ruger 10/22 Talo
    Rifle Function: 25 rounds worked perfectly -except the last shoot hold open did not work, it didnt work with the Greentag at 1070 fps either.

    CMMG Gov Model Upper
    Rifle Function: 25 rounds worked perfectly
    Ammo reliability: 25 all feed and fired
    Accuracy: My sight picture was pretty decent and got a great solid turkey check and check weld.
    But overall accuracy was superb, minus my obvious NPOA misses and sight picture issues.

      Bullet Weight: 40 Grains
      Bullet Style: Lead Round Nose

      Ballistics Information:

      I had equipment issue, my Ruger scope rings came loose so I had to scratch an entire target, so no Marlin, YET!
      Ruger 10/22 Talo
      Rifle Function: 25, 1 FTE
      Ammo reliability: 25, 1 FTE
      Accuracy: I had to rezero. My sight picture was great and had a solid turkey check and check weld.

                  Let the fun begin!

                  Anxiously awaiting the CMMG AR results. Did you move the scope from rifle to rifle or do you have 3 Leupys?!

                        Wow, that CMMG is a shooter!

                        Did better than your 10/22! Hoping my CMMG might give my Razor/GM barrel/KIDD single stage a run for the money!

                        Thanks for the update!

                          Thats some nice shooting with that set-up, especially with a low power scope. The Eley Sport is a pretty good, nicely priced ammo as you have seen. If you can find it locally another ammo that shoots even better for me at the same price is Aguila Pistol Match. Shoots nearly as well as Wolf Match Target/SK Std+ in my rifles. I've had no luck finding it in my area so I order it from Cheaperthandirt.com, best price.

                          It appears that you are shooting for groups. If that's the case I would suggest that you set up your scope so that POI is 1" above your POA so that your shots do not obscure your aimpoint. You'll have a more consistent sight picture that way.

                          Good stuff, looking forward to more tests.

                            Great suggestion. I follow that thought with iron sights, but didn't consider it with a scope, I will adjust and give it a shot.
                            Oh and it just so happens I will be testing Aguila Pistol Match and SK Pistol match :-)

                              Can you handle the smell?

                              I won't shoot Eley Sport because of the stink!

                              Man I really miss the perfume of WW MkIII!!! That was some amazing stuff.
