.17 hmr vs abandoned hippie school bus bumper

So a while back i was plinking with my buddy on his proporty. Our target was a chopped up abandoned hippie bus. We shot the body with everything and i wanted to see if a .17 would penetrate the body too. And it did. I then thought why not shoot the thick steel bumper with a .45 acp mauser i built. It did not penetrate and bounced right off. Ill get a pic of the retrieved .45 bullets for comparison after i dig them out of my boxes from my previous move

We them thought maybe a .17 hmr could penetrate it too and guess what? It actually did. I shot it next to where a .45 acp from a 16.5" barrel would not penetrate and wow it made a clean little hole...

    Heres the damage:

This was an abdolute shock to us. We shot it a few more times with te same results and the little .17 had enough energy to pop a tire on the bus still... Quite astounding in my opinion.

This is why i would use a .17 as a SHTF round. Its got some balls.

50 yards with a hornaday xtp. The controlled expansion hollowpoint. Same round i use for squirrels and coyotes

The .45 was at 25 yards

How about some pics of your Mauser .45

I am looking at building one.
