    Winchester Model 60 restoration

(disregard the cob webs and dust), but anyone know what model rifle this is? obviously the stock is "whittled"....any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, what is the best way to stop the rust? electrolysis? I want to stop this from degrading any further (or is it a lost cause?)....thanks guys!

Winchester model 60 I think. Might be salvageable depending on the chamber and bore condition....

Electrolysis would be a great option. Search for "Ajax22" in the Gunsmith section. He's cleaned up several guns using that method. You could also Google electrolysis. Pretty efficient way to clean an old rust bucket.

        What is this????
        Project!
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Ok guys, I fabricated an electrolysis tank and have it cooking.....I was thinking about leaving it in there until I get off work tomorrow, but, can I damage it by leaving it in there too long? The bluing is basically non existent at this point.....what do you guys think?

From watching the Ajax's thread it looks like you can erode the electrodes at some point.

                Good luck!!
Thanks Lazy.....yea, hopefully my sacrificial anode wont go away and turn my gun into its place....the water is all rust colored....in fact, I noticed a rust colored cloud within 1 min forming around my anode after pluggin in the juice.

Id like to say that I wouldnt care if something happened, but this lil .22 came from a deceased family member (obviously not him, but his wife), so I do have a bit of attachment....well, ill post up some pics tomorrow of my winchester 60 soup....

                  I love project firearms!
Six of one or half dozen of the other; but, I would have simply tried oil and fine steel wool first.
Having had to do just that with a couple of rusty old Marlin .22s left in a barn for decades and ending up with good results, I'm interested in how yours comes out!

I originally used pretty warm water mixed with baking soda.....

after, I realized I should have used sodium carbonate, not baking soda....oh well, we will see how it turns out. Ill add in more pictures I took with the stock off.....stand by....

Looking at photos, it should make a decent tomato plant stake, not a gun you want to shoot.
