    Marlin 795-jamomatic?

I bought a 22LR 795 a year ago. First couple hundred rounds no problems. Now, it doesn't matter if I shoot good stuff (CCI mini ) or cheap crap...I get at least one FTF, FTE or gnarly stovepipe every 10 rounds. It's lubed and cleaned and still does it...

What can I do? Ditch it for a 10/22?

How many cheap rounds do you have through it?

It shouldn't be doing that, neither of the 795's have ever had a failure of any kind in thousands of rounds shot.

      Did you do any mods?
      Ever taken the action apart?
Possible a spring got put back in wrong, broken, or missing?
      Missing one of the e-clips?
      Screws tight?
      Buffer cracked?

Sorry not a whole lot to go on so I'm shooting in the dark.

BTW when you say lubed and cleaned, how much lube we talking? Is it wet like an AR15? If so imo rimfires do not like that! I clean my 795's with CLP and pretty much wipe it off till it shines but is dry.

I think I've had one failure to feed in about 4,000 rounds through my 795.

I took two 795s to an Appleseed shoot, both had enough jams and misfeeds to make me fail to complete several stages.

I gave one away and I'm trying to figure out the issues with the one my Dad gave me. I'll be keeping that one even if I can't get it smoothed out.

I've cleaned it. I know nothing is missing or backwards. I've tried AR lubed, and dry. It has at least 500 rds of cheap ammo and 300 of CCI.

Interesting. In the tens of thousands of rounds through mine, I have had maybe 1-2 malfunctions. Ammo related or not, it has been uber reliable for me. Call Marlin or have a smith check it out.

I have 4 795's and no issues. mine and my wifes have a few thousand rounds through them, no issues.
I find jamming issues occur when the feed ramp is dirty.
take it apart, take pictures and post them

I shot the first 300 or so rounds from my Marlin and got a few jams (case stuck in the chamber rather than ejected). Using my friend's also-new 10/22, I got one jam per magazine (I only shot 3 mags from it). Maybe it's just break in?

For my Marlin, I might have too much lube in the action.

I usually average about one failure every 1,000 rounds or so with my Marlin 795 and bulk Federal ammo. I can live with that.

If I had a failure once every 10 rounds I couldn't easily troubleshoot, I would contact the manufacturer.

Although I pretty much consider myself a 10-22 man when it comes to the rivalry betwwen the Rugers and the Marlins, I've shot enough 795s to know that jamming is generally not an issue. If you're still having problems after a good clean and oil plus trying at least four different high velocity (NOT hyper) 22 ammo types, I would see a gunsmith. Oh, and a note to "Lead Waster,"---my two 10-22s haven't had almost any jams that weren't directly related to rare faulty ammo---they just work!

My 795 will do that with bulk Remington ammo. Federal bulk and CCI no issues. Several thousand rounds of those, no more remington ammo. I have heard from several people they can be picky with ammo, just try several and find what it likes.

OK, I took mine to an Appleseed as well. By the second day (I couldn't clean it between Sat and Sunday due to preschooler sleepover on Sat), it started jamming on the second round of each mag and at least once per mag.

I took a break and hosed down the action with CLP and wiped it as well as I could (NOTE: Bring cleaning supplies to Appleseed!) though I had to wipe the action out with a paper towel wrapped in a chamber flag. Then I added a drop of oil to the bolt.

I only had time for one more string of fire (ie 2 magazines) but they didn't jam.

I had 4 magazines that I bought new, and the gun, by the time I was getting jams, had about 800 rounds through it (ie; probably not a break-in issue).

I did have jams on the first day too, but not as many as the second day.

I DID NOT thoroughly clean, deburr and very very lightly oil the action before. I SUSPECT that I had way too much oil in there and that it was gumming up with the powder residue.

Was it the mags? Well, like I said, I rotated 4 new magazines (two of which were BRAND new). Could it have been poor magazine seating, due to the rush of the Appleseed course? Maybe.

                            User error? Possibly.

I'm not willing to give up yet though. I will do a detail strip of the action, clean/degrease every piece and start over with just the lightest hint of oil in the chamber/action area and see where it goes.

Like Kestrell said, it really ruins a timed Appleseed AQT round when your rifle jams. Pretty frustrating. I hope to have it sorted by the time I go again, and I WILL bring the same rifle. (Though I'll actually set the scope up right this time!)

usually when we get 795 jams on the Appleseed line it is a dirty feed ramp, so your cleaning fix is Right On! A brush, CLP and a wipe, gets you back in the game
