With a 2nd focal plane scope like a Nikon what shifts zero as you zoom are the marks for the bullet drop compensation - not the crosshairs. That's because the BDC reticle remains fixed while the image zooms. On a 1st focal plane scope the reticle zooms with the image keeping the BDC markings accurate at all magnification settings. Unless you have a defective scope the center of the crosshairs do not shift as you zoom with either design. I hope that helps.

In reality the BDC on a 2nd focal plane scope is really just there to help a hunter get rapid minute-of-putting-dinner-on-the-table accuracy and are really only intended (and practical) for use at maximum magnification.

I got the Mueller APT, and love it. Mounted it in a larue mount/larue rail with an MGM switchview throw lever and it is great.

I've had more than a few of those.

I'd suggest the Simmons 22Mag scope series.

            4x32

            3-9x32

            3-9x32 w/Adjustable Objective

I prefer the 3-9x32 with AO so can dial in the scope's focus as close as 10 feet or as far as I can see.

I put a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 on mine and can shoot flies at 50 yards

but then again, the gun itself is capable of putting 10 rounds in a hole the size of your thumbnail at 100y . . . no a standard 10/22

Just ordered my first 10/22, Ruger stainless takedown. Found a nice Baska 3-9X 40mm scope with mounts for $50 @ the Sportsman Guide. Can't wait to get it. Seems like a good price and matching stainless will look nice. I'll follow up when I get them.
