If you want black just get a plastic OEM stock, can probably find one cheap. Stuff like the cool old wood just isn't offered anymore.
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

Here's my Marlin 60 in a walnut stock with an inexpensive Centerpoint scope.

The Centerpoint scope you can buy at Walmart $70..It comes with rings to mount the scope on your rifle.
My stock came from Boyds Gun Stock. They don't make the solid walnut anymore but there is a good selection of modernistic laminated stocks.

Im already all over that thread reading up on it, i think im just gnna leave the mod 60 alone since my dad left it as is and hes now passed away so im leaning toward the marlin 795 after reading im seeing nothing but good reviews about it, also kinda knocked my mind off wanting the ruger 10/22.

Like the other have said...just leave it alone and get a nice synthetic stock for it. The important part is making sure mechanically everything works fine.

I have one in stock condition and for a good carry rifle you can't go wrong. I just wish it had sling swivels on the stock.

If it's been used before check the crown and if necessary have a smith re-crown the barrel.
