The .17HMR is a great round. I have one in a Savage. I also have a Marlin 925M in .22WMR and its a great shooter. I doubt you will be disappointed in the Marlin but before buying I suggest you go to rimfirecentral.com (you'll have to establish an account to search) and check out the Marlin sub-forum on that rifle. Some folks over there have them. There were some QC issues with many Marlin firearms after Marlin was purchased by Remington and they moved the production to a different location.

Most think the QC issues have been worked out but still best to look for reviews first.

Try before you buy. The trigger on mine was so bad, it was almost unshootable. Had to buy a Rifle-Basix trigger group. It is now a dreamboat, very dependable and a real tackdriver. If you're on a budget, go buy something that already has a good trigger. Check out the Savages.

I have one. Good gun. Also did the Rifle Basix trigger. Better gun.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

I have one. I'll say the same thing I've said numerous times. If I had the choice, I'd get the Savage just for the accutrigger. As it stands it wasn't available when I bought my 917v. But after the Rifle Basix trigger, the Revival stock, Burris rings and Simmons WTC scope, I'll be the last to complain.
