.17 HMR RELEASED!
Pennys Dad

If the upper/magwell kit was $450 I would have bought one already, $500 I'd put it on my list... $650? Pass.Comment

This is tempting. If I wasn't wasting my rifle money on assembling an AR-pistol that will be getting a tax stamp to become an SBR I would probably consider getting their upper. Too many other things that I would rather have than a 17HMR AR-15.Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L Mencken
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. - Han Solo
"Moms Demand Action" sounds less like a gun control group and more like the title of a porn flick from the mid-90s.Comment

Wasn't this released and shipped last year? Anyways, it's cool for those who like .17 HMR! IMO: Cool, but not $1,100 (base model) cool.

They are pretty cool in concept, but I agree too much money. Especially with 17HMR and .223 really not being THAT for in price.
It would be a pretty fun squirrel/plinking gun, but I'd rather stick with my .22 bolt gun or get a .22 AR upper for my ground squirrel hunts. The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

Actually, similar rounds in those calibers are very differently priced. A box of 50 hornady 17gr v-max is $13. Go price hornady 55gr v-max...it is almost $1.00/round.
Comparing the premium 17hmr to FMJ 223, yes, they are pretty close in price
I'd rather shoot 55gr v-max.....especially at the cost of that rifleLast edited by trob; 10-04-2012, 9:17 AM.Comment

I think the biggest advantage when comparing the two rounds is with 17 you get to play by rimfire rules. No such thing as an evil feature on a rimfire rifle( someone please correct me on this in some unrealistic scenario fallowed by " I don't. Wanna be a test case).Actually, similar rounds in those calibers are very differently priced. A box of 50 hornady 17gr v-max is $13. Go price hornady 55gr v-max...it is almost $1.00/round.

I forgot about that.
Its still a 17gr projectile that gets blown off-course too easily for anything over 200y (for me). Well, that's what I've found while hunting.
Under 200 with no wind, I take my 17....any wind, and longer shots, they get the 223.Comment
