Hello fellow Calgunners, I bought a Ruger Mark III this year and after a few times at the range it developed a problem that I wanted to ask your opinion on. There is a roll pin in the rear sight that continually walks its way out during shooting. I've pressed it back in several times only to have it repeat the same problem right afterwards. I called Ruger's support line and they gave me the following remedy: Allow the pin to protrude halfway, tap it with a ball-peen hammer to put a slight bend in the pin, then re-seat the pin. Although I don't doubt this would probably fix the problem, I'm a little squeamish about banging on my gun with a hammer. Has anyone else had a similar issue, and what did you do to fix it. I'd like to weigh all my options before proceeding. Thanks!

If you are not comfortable tapping it with a hammer then just push it in with a tip of a flat head screw driver, on mine I pulled it completely out, bend it a little bit on the center of the pin with a small pliers then I push it in using the tip of the flat screw driver, it have never come out again since.Comment

Thank you very much for the responses, I like your solutions. I will try your least destructive suggestions and work my way up until it stays in place. If I have to bend the pin, I'll know I will have tried everything else first. This forums is really great resource! I'll keep you posted on the outcome.Comment

Put a slight bend with pliers, and haven't had a problem since, at least 1500 rounds later. If you are not comfortable tapping it with a hammer then just push it in with a tip of a flat head screw driver, on mine I pulled it completely out, bend it a little bit on the center of the pin with a small pliers then I push it in using the tip of the flat screw driver, it have never come out again since.LASD Retired

After many weekends devoted to school, I was finally able to working on the Mark III. I remove the roll pin, sight rail screws, and front sight post screw. I degreased the parts, and the mating features. I used purple loctite, and tightened everything with a torque screwdriver to 18-20 inch pounds.
The first test was a success, but I didn't bring my magazine loader. My thumb became raw at 350 rounds. Everything is still in its place, which is promising.
The next plan was to bend the pin as suggested, but so far it seems to be holding without it.
Thank you for all the suggestions!Comment
