Looking for first shooter .22lr with scope

Not sure if I'm posting on the right section but...I'm looking for a starter .22lr rifle with scope preferably under $250. I've seen a savage mark II G on the forum here sold for around that price. Was just wondering if that's the going price for such rifle or that's s steal deal?

Anyways, if you have one you'd like to pass it on, please let me know or if you know of such reputable gun shop that could help me get/built one for around that price, please point me in the right direction. I'm in the SF bay area peninsula. Thanks

Don't buy a rifle and scope combo.
The scope is pretty much guaranteed to be rubbish.

First you need to decide if you want bolt or semi-auto.

      My suggestion: The Marlin 795

I sent you a PM. I just got a Marlin 795 with extra mag and Leapers 4X32 scope in a trade deal with another CG'er. I never had any intension of keeping it anyway. This will be well within your price range. Let me know if you are interested.

              ^^ This

Consider a Ruger 10/22 or a Savage 795 and go from there.

I was going to recommend the Marlin 795... so I would look at the offer above...

Go for a Ruger 10/22. That should be everyone's first .22 rifle

Nice. Thank you all for the input. I'll read up on the 795.

How about a beginner's bolt action rifle?

the Savage Mark II is fantastic, and affordable. get the Accutrigger, you will not be dissapointed.

                          Everything about the 795:

My 22bolt recommendation is XT-22 also made by Marlin and uses the same 10 round magazines as the 795!

So get both and then they can share magazines!

The Ruger 10/22 is a must have for any 22 rifle. Everyone should have one.

I love my savage mark ii. SOOOOO accurate with a scope, though the iron sights were not impressive. I bought mine at Marin Arms in Novato... San rafael?
                              good rabbit gun too.
