Ruger 10/22 Questions

So I am looking to get a 10/22 and I have a few questions to ask you guys who already own them. First where is the cheapest place to find them. Sportsmans warehouse house has them for around $220.
Second, Is what model to get. I have been looking at the stainless model with black synth stock, that comes with high vis sights from SW. But I am wondering lasting value is between stainless and blued Ruger finishes. In other words which one will hold up longer, since this rifle will be used for multiple event shooting like boy scouts ect... I have also looked at the take down model, and really like the idea and look. Is there and issues with alignment or accuracy on them.

The big question is, are you going to leave it stock or customize it? If building a custom gun, start out as cheap as possible. If you like it as is then get one with the options you want. They all hold their value very well. I like the take down for hiking, it's a great little gun and the only one I would leave stock.

pawn shops, dont be afraid of used parts are plentiful ...

just my opinion but i would take a used one from the 70-80's over any new one on the market

If it is your first purchase of one and you do not plan to customise the stock, then buy the take down IMO. No alignment issues and the scope always goes back to zero for me. Always good to look at the actual gun you are going to buy first to make sure there aren't any defects that you can visually see before you buy. In the beginning, Ruger was having some alignment issues of which there is a forum here on alignment fixes, and secondly there were some issues with the magwell being chipped. I have mine sighted in at 75 yards and can shoot about a 1 inch group. I have a Redfield Revolution 2-7 power scope mounted and it fits back into the case after I modified the mount Ruger sent with the gun. If you want to customise the stock, then by all means just by that $220 gun you spoke about. Pretty hard to compete with that price and buying used guns can save some money, but finding 10/22's that haven't been shot a lot is quite hard. I personally would buy every one I come across if I could. The main modification that every 10/22 needs is the auto bolt IMO and perhaps a little better trigger pull. Beyond that, they are great guns and real fun to shoot come range day or plinking in the woods.

+1 to that if you can find a good deal on one!

Also, the auto bolt release mod is a 10 minute mod that (almost) anyone with basic hand tools can do. A dremel makes it take longer to remove&replace the stock release than the actual mod takes! If you have not been there, check out rimfirecentral.

I have the most basic 10/22. Hardwood finish. Great rifle super customizable. Litteraly every part is swappable for an aftermarket part. Just start with the cheapest model and work your way up with accessories.

Just keep looking at various gun shops and compare prices.
