    Ruger 10/22 question?

I bought a Ruger 10/22 carbine stainless and synthetic, picked it up Thursday, and shot it for the first time today. When my daughter was shooting today the gun would not lock to the rear, after the last shot. So we spent the rest of the time counting the number of shots fired. We did dry fire the gun the first 4 times it ran dry. I then realized it was just not locking to the rear. So first I hope the 4 dry fires are not going to be a problem. My other question is this common in the 10/22 when it is first used? What could be the possible problems? I have not owned a 10/22 before so I am not sure what may be the problem. The gun functioned without any issues to feed ,fire or eject the cases. I was using CCI mini mags. It was actually pretty clean when I got home to clean the gun.

    Any help would be appreciated.

All you answers are addressed in the owners manual. Perhaps check it out. That is how I politely say RTFM.

Yep I read over some of the basic care and features. I didn't see the info for dry fire and bolt not locking open. I have the manual in my hands as I was checking back here to hear what others had to say. Thanks all!

the bolt and firing pin have a stop pin so unless the stop pin breaks or bends badly you will not damage the chamber...

i have my orig 1022 from around 1980 that has gawd knows how many rounds threw it and the stop pin is still perfect and i dry fire it a lot when dumping my old ramlines as fast i can ....

Sounds like you have got the right info here, Ruger 10/22's do not have a LSHO bolt. Now, you can go to rimfirecentral.com for a lot of information too. Personally The first modification I have to make with any 10/22 is the installation of the auto bolt. It is way nice to just be able to pull back on the bolt handle and release to inject the first round. It makes for a far more fun range day IMO.

This is the worst feature of the 10/22. I don't know why they can't design it to lock the bolt back. Seems like it's a pretty standard feature on most other semi-autos.

I think no rimfire should be dry fired,
