    Need a new .22lr pistol...

Thinkingof selling my Beretta U22 NEOS and getting a new .22 pistol. So far I like the look of the Ruger SR-22 and the M&P 22. Any suggestions or experience with either of these?

I have the SR22 and I love it. I've had a number of 22 pistols and I'm most impressed with this one. You won't regret it and women love shooting it

The SR-22 is a cool little gun and I emphasize the little part.

It's size made it feel like a toy for me but otherwise the gun is solid. If you don't mind the size then go for it.

I have a ruger, fun gun to shoot and wasn't that expensive.

SR22. In over 1000 rounds I've not had any issues. It has ambi controls, 2 mags, adjustable rear sight and 2 grips. Easy to clean and a good gunfor the price.

I've shot the M&P 22 in Michigan (though never the SR22).

I really like it. It feels like a full size gun and from what I've read is reliable with just about any type of ammo. It's hammer fired with the hammer hidden internally and field stripping is a little bit different than the full size gun.

You won't get the accuracy that you would from a dedicated target pistol like a Buckmark or MkIII but it's fun for plinking and a cheap complement to training for your full size M&P if you have one.

I have one on order from ASC (unknown price) and it seems like Turner's and Reeds is starting to take orders.

[e] The M&P 22 has an ambi manual safety. It has adjustable sights but only comes with 1 magazine and unlike its bigger siblings, it does not have adjustable backstraps. One grip to rule them all.

I've had the chance to shoot the Walther P22, S&W M&P 22 and the Ruger SR22, I currently own an SR22. The Walther and Smith both felt like cheap toys in my hand. The trigger pull was a lot nicer on the ruger than either of the other two, none were really any more accurate for me than the others shooting off hand, and I didn't bother trying to shoot them from a rest. If you like the standard M&P pistol with the medium backstrap you will love how the M&P fits your hand, if you have somewhat smaller hands than that the Walther or the Ruger will feel better in your hands. I tried the larger grip for the SR22 and kept getting bit by the hammer so I shoot mine with the smaller grip. In the end I would say the only way you could go wrong is with the P22, worst warranty of the bunch, 1 year, made of the cheapest material, the so-called "pot metal" Zamak slide, and it is the hardest to reassemble, complete PITA to fight the recoil spring and guide rod on reassembly. The only benefit that the P22 and M&P22 have over the SR22 is the removable barrel nut and ability to accept a thread adapter for use with a suppressor, but that is a non-issue in CA since y'all can't have threaded barrels on a pistol.

I'm over 1000 rounds into my SR22, and I have had 1 failure to feed using a non-plated round that decided to hang up on the feed ramp, and one failure to eject where I had to put pressure on the extractor to get it to pull out the spent casing, but other than that it has been trouble free, and I really didn't expect that kind of reliability out of a tacticool 22lr pistol.

The little SR22 is a fine little Handgun. Of those you mentioned thats the only one I have experience with. Researched alot before making the decision to get the SR22. It is actually my wifes but I really like it..

I was already sold on the SR22 from owner reviews, but this thread is solidifying my decision.

I just ordered an SR-22, esp. after watching Hickok45's video review on it.

My first 22 was the SR22PB. Traded it off because I started to get bored with it. Funny how you sometimes don't know how good you had it until its gone.

Ruger SR22 is a good 22LR pistol but the overall size is small, if you will be shooting a lot then the Ruger MK III is the way to go, I have been shooting my MK III Hunter a lot then I recently bought a CZ Kadet 22LR conversion kit for my CZ75 compact and was surprise how good it shoots, the downside is that the prize of the magazine is expensive!
