    Remington 597

I bought a Remington 597 yesterday, it was between a 10/22 and the 597. I went with the 597 because my fathers 10/22 is so picky with ammo.

Does anyone have a Remington 597? How's it shoot, is it picky? Is it accurate up to 100 yards?

I tried the search bar but the results were every Remington EXCEPT the 597 haha.

I have a basic model with an Arch Angel kit and another VTR model. Both are good for 100 yrds with a good scope. Some FTF with Remington golden bullet & subsonic. Great with most CCI's & Winchester super X - M-22 ammo.

          nick913White,

Mine shot/grouped terrible so I had to either get rid of it or put on a new barrel. Now it groups super fantastic and am much happy with a Voltquatrsen stainless steel barrel. Plastic magazines are lousey and springs are weak. Keep them clean so they won't jam on you. Never shot any ammo out to 100 yards with it as I only shoot 50 yards myself.

So if your refering to the 22 long rifle caliber then you and I are on the same page. I'd like a 17 HMR version but haven't seen one from Remington in any store from my area.

Mine shoots great after break-in and finding ammo it likes.
The Volquartsen trigger is a great improvement over the factory trigger and only~$30.

Remington recalled the 17HMR version some time ago

                rockford,

Thanks for the info. I kept my 597's trigger as is cuz the mechanism is so simple a little grease smoothed it up good and after a couple bricks of ammo the tigger pull weight is so light and sweet.

Question, does Remington not make the 17HMR model anymore?????

Should have said Volquartsen *Hammer* not trigger.

Remington recalled the 17HMR model in 2009 due to safety concerns.

The 22WMR model is still available.

LMFAO that your Remington rifle has issues with Remington ammo.

Mine shoots anything, including subsonic and cheap Rem golden bullets fine.

Stay away from the plastic mags.

About every 4th mag I'll get a minor FTF or double feed, but I think that is my sloppy mag loading.

I haven't even cleaned mine yet, but did run bore snake down barrel.

Yes, it should come shooting "dead on" from factory.

To mount a scope in right place you may need to remove rear sight.

I added sling, I just drilled holes a little smaller than the screws and no problems.

Pallmetto has them on sale for $120, I might get 2nd just to have scoped and non-scoped, since I got the mags.

                        rockford,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know this rifle was considered to be unsafe cuz I really wanted to get one for my battery. After all the cartirdge is a very flat shooting bullet and is ecellent for varmint shooting out to an easy 100 yards even though I don't get involved in that particular sport.

I never had good luck with the 22 magnum. I have a Marlin 25MN model and it groups terrible at 100 yards. I could'nt hit anything with this cartidge. I tried everything possible to improve on it but to no avail.
